Ok so here's a start to a comprehensive post regarding our scene, the direction of the scene, the 'pop-up' parties, the production companies like bar stool sports, and essentially the decline of the NYC Nightlife and the return to the underground.
UNICORN MEAT NYC - STAND THE DOWN YOU ARE ING UP AND ARE ING UP OUR SCENE!
| quote: |
A late-night, rave-like glowing pool party hosted in a Brooklyn warehouse... what could go wrong! According to a copy of a lawsuit obtained by the NY Post, what could and did go wrong was that the pool at the Sunset Park party (hosted by Unicorn Meat NYC) was filled with glow-in-the-dark "water" which left two party attendees with "permanent" vision impairment.
The event—called Return to the Bubble Kingdom—took place on August 4th, and according to the Facebook page, was scheduled to run from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tickets cost around $90.
The two 19-year-old women, Rocio Marie Cabrera and Sarah Deodath of the Bronx, have now filed a lawsuit against the promoters as well as warehouse owner Atlantic Properties. It states that the organizers "dumped toxic chemicals into the large pool to alter 'the color and/or reflective properties' of the water,'" which led to the women ingesting and absorbing the "dangerous, hazardous and/or toxic chemicals." Their lawyer, Keith Sullivan, called the pool a "chemical soup." The suit states the women have been left with a "permanent reduction of visibility in both eyes.

I'm more concerned with production companies that think it's a good idea to dump chemicals into a foam party / pool that will give them the 'glowing' theme that they've been advertising yet take no precaution to what would actually happen. Then I balance it out as advertised to be under 21 type of parties, it's ing up the scene because it ties to our music genre. Following in line are production companies like MADE that caters to that genre/audience which further progresses amateur production companies to aspire to be at the level of Made Events.
Detracting from the NYC Manhattan Club/Nightlife which, rightfully so, is no longer a BOTTLE SERVICE oriented establishments, back down to the underground. Don't get me wrong, user discretion plays equal parts but at the age of 19 we're curious, we experiment, and often put ourselves in harms way but not by an organization that's promoting it.
I'm more then likely to side with the girls in the article above, I don't promote the behavior of dunking ones head into a glowing pool / foam party, i just think the production company should have used better discretion in providing that scenario which is definitely harmful to any user at any age. |

i was working sunday night and while riding the subway i seen a whole crew of neon ravers coming from some party they said on gov island...they were covered in neon paint and such
one of them said they were spraying it into the crowd.
imo if you are just standing there and that just hits you in the eye and you get hurt then the promoters are liable
as for this case the company should have had a sign stateing what was in the pool.
but for these 2 girls just ask yourself this question...
WTF are you doing swiming in a toxic pool? |

| The promoter claims that these allegations have been falsified by the media. Saw him post something in reply to the article on facebook. |
