hey guys. let me say in advance, thank you for your suggestions! you guys rock!
alright, here's the deal. i've been buying a lot of records lately. just cuz i love to have tunes that i really love on vinyl. but the problem is i don't have a record player. yes, not even a ty one. i was always planning on buying some decks and a mixer one day so i could have some fun with it. mostly just for myself. i don't ever plan on doing anything beyond my entertainment (well maybe for a few friends too) with it. but its finally gotten to the point where i need atleast one deck so i can listen to my vinyls. so what do you suggest? i want to get one now, and then a bit later i'll get a second one (hopefully the same exact one) and a mixer.
so what turntable should i be getting? |

It depends how much you got and how much you want to spend. I guarantee you, if you start buying decks, you'll want to mix, so i suggest you get something that will allow you to mix properly later on.
You need to get direct drive in this case. A set of Stanton decks, like the str8-60 or something is relatively cheap, or the str8-80 which is a bit better.
If you want to spend a lot, then obviously the technics 1200's are the ones to get. But for your purposes, I would recommend something a little cheaper like the stantons. I haven't heared to much bad news about them.
But as I said, it all depends on how much you want to spend. Buying tt's is kinda like buying a car. |

for now..dont even bother with a DJ turntable.
just go to Cash Convertors and buy some cheap ass belt drive hifi table, and a new slipmat(never know whats on the old one) and a needle.
you can listen, go to I think about +3 in pitch and itll only cost you about $20 Cdn
That should tide you over well. |

actually i was considering the stantons. i dunno which ones they were, but at the record store here in town, they were selling 'em for $150. now i don't know about record players, so yeah, i dunno. :p
i was kinda hoping to get technics 1200. but then again i don't really have that much money. but i'll be buying a mixer and a second deck very soon (within 6 months i guess) so why not go all out and get the technics now? cuz heres the thing. why would i buy the stanton now for 150, and then two technics and a mixer in like 6 months? thats a waste of the $150 on the stanton. i dunno.
how much does one technic 1200 go for? $400? for some reason thats the amount i got in my head. so if its like that, it may be worth it. b-day or christmas present from my mommy! :D |

Save for the technics.....thats what I did.....I had soem friends tell me to start w/ cheap tables but then I had one friend who told me........go all out.......by the Tech. because u will end up converting to them anyway.......soon as I got my Techs there was no turning back.......hehehe
I can actually say I felt a diff b/c I use to play on soem Numarks and they were kinda crappy.......freakin pitch and stuff went flying everywhere......start time sucked......I had to roll the record to get it to speed........w/ the Techs......I felt good b/c I knew I wouldn't have to upgrade anymore (will to M3D maybe) but thats another store.....:D |

bullshe-it! cars devalue like water falling down the side of a mountain. I paid $370/ea for my used MK3D's, and I can more than likely get just that much for them, right now.
if not, certainly not much less.

yes for both the turntables and the mixer :)
hmmmm..ill have to think about selling them individually...part of what makes this such an attraction is that you get everything u need to start spinning ;) :D (well besides the headphones and carts :o ) |
