I'll start with some oldies

I'd appreciate keeping vocals to a minimum. Yes Everytime has vocals, but they're ok :p

bring em!

I didn't really think this through when I made the thread. I could definitely list a lot more, but not to spam with embeds I'll just add one more

the Ambient Mix of this track is bliss.

I'm very much out of touch with trance these days, so I might be clueless about this; were there a lot more melodies like these made before than now?

Most modern trance is so emotionally simplistic and stylistically excessive that attempts at melancholy are usually so over-cooked and bombastic the effect is lost. Melancholy is a subtle, lingering mood - everything contemporary trance is not.

To a give a counterexample to the kind of overblown trance you've mentioned - Recondite's Plangent series is a perfect example of understated, subtle melancholy. A simple bassline and a few notes can say more than a giant, overblown sea of arpeggios and strings.

While I do appreciate the examples you posted, isn't this more minimal techno than trance? Then again, the lines might blur in the Resistance D track I posted as well. I realize it's not your typical trance-track.

Woony just likes to post melodic techno in trance threads in the vague hope he'll convert a trancecracker or two.

Light The Fuse
soooo....basically trance tunes in a minor key - and going for more wierd melancholy sound then its G minor - (or a good majority of psy :p )
