| you lived in london tho. I am pretty sure i was the only person in Alberta producing EDM. well except for those raver idiots that were using trackers and fruity loops and stuff. They didn't count. |

where are you from. Broadband was pretty much universal in 2000. Or did you start when you were really young. I never bothered with DAW as anything but a sequencer until 2002. I remember buying the UAD cards first generation when you had to take care of delay compensation. I must of been like one of 10 people in Canada to have those cards.
I remember in 2000 that there was no help anywhere. No sample cds aimed at dance and you pretty much had to figure it all out on your own.
And i used to have a yamaha sampler the A5000. 4 mb of ram. About 40 seconds in mono. Nice. Side chaining didn't exist well it did but who had that kind of money. I had 1 buss compressor, a TC delay and a lexicon reverb. |
I started out last year of elementary school. So that'd make me like 11-12, I think? Had dabbled some before, on my c128, but never really got how the software worked, plus I was pretty busy banging up drums at that time, so I got a lot of the loud noises out of me that way. |

the only kids i knew listening to dance back then where these 2 greesy italian kids. They were like beavis and buthead but smart i suppose. The one guy would like talk about going to the peelers and getting a blowjob. They were funny. I think i was one of the few people that talked to them. Now he is a doctor. But the other guy used to use a tracker i remember.
I hated all the dance i heard until about 1998.
I mean like the disco influenced stuff was fine but like that people use to rave to. man i ing hated it. |

I actually didn't even know about EDM until 2005-2006 though and didn't start learning how to properly produce until 2010. |
WTF were you living under a rock or something? Sorry don't mean to be rude but I just can't comprehend how you hadn't heard of any EDM stuff until 2005/6 or whatever.
Happy b'day btw mang! |

I grew up in Texas, the middle of the country is usually way behind the coasts on trends like EDM, so I never once heard anyone talking about it. Also, I would have been pretty young before that time anyway. Finally, this was before youtube (or at the very start) which has made it a lot easier to find music worldwide.
I had heard Darude - Sandstorm and maybe a few other tracks but I just thought they were like an electronica song or something. |

| Thanks again guys. Well, I grew up in Oklahoma, and there were raves going on in Arkansas and everything like that. I was 12 though. I actually think my dad went to a rave once with my sister because she was too young to go by herself (14) but our older sister (17) could attend by herself. But it really is a matter of exposure, you basically had to dig to find it if there weren't any raves or clubs to hear it in. A DJ Dan rave must have really, really sucked balls. No wonder he ditched all his EDM CDs! |

ahh righto, just seemed a little odd to me. I grew up in a pretty small town out of the city too, maybe not that remote but I still remember all the dance stuff on the radio and DJs playing at blue light parties and when I was still at school etc. but hey I don't really have much of an idea of what things are like in Texas. |
