Actually that isn't that much less.
Though the apprenctices-of-the-universe that will end up here would disagree, if you check the true inflation numbers at shadowstats against that 2001 price, most of the difference is inflation.
Sad but true. |
That would entail the inflation rate being like 125%!! Inflation would bring an $80 ticket in 2001 to, MAYBE $110, and that's stretching it.. |

Didn't want to go into the technical side of it, but here goes:
We are talking about more than a decade.
When you compound 7% for 10 years, it equals a doubling of the base-line number.
Specifically for 11 years, a 6% compounded = 189.9%
That is not in dispute, you can easily do the math to see this.
So, did we have that much devaluation (= inflation) of our money?
Not according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics of course, but then again, their acronym should be spelled WITHOUT the "L".
That is why I menioned shadowstats.
see: http://www.shadowstats.com/alternat...nflation-charts
You will notice that John Williams' alternate series (blue line) is at an average annual rate of ~6% over that 11 year period.
So, that does give you the rough doubling I mentioned --factoring out the NYC-priced drinks (~$40), you are doubling that $80 !
It's up to you to choose who you believe:
the government or John Williams.
There is plenty on his website about how he derives his numbers, and espcially also his M3-alternate series, as well as elsewhere.
He is by far more serious than the bull heuristic and other gaming adjustments used by the government, and if you actually investigate the credibility and still believe the government, well then....
FWIW: the devaluation based upon the liars' numbers is 131% (Minneapolis Fed).
We are so used to the notion that prices always go up, that we forget that without inflation (meaning without bloating the money-supply), the natural order of things is for prices to decline, due to productivity gains, tech. advancements, etc.
Sorry about boring you all to tears... |

Nah not boring at all, you obviously know your stuff! I probably believe in a happy middle ground between what the government reports and what you're saying. |

| Last Halloween he played at Provocateur to a packed crowd. For a regular Music On night it is fifty euro. If it didn't end at 4am I would be tempted to go. I know Time To Get Ill and Dog and Pony Show are doing a party together. Last year Time To Get Ill was a solid party on Halloween |

I always wanted to go to an event at Cipriani's (used to live right next to it) but I'd rather it be a black tie affair.
Plus dare I say, Marco isn't all that great. |

I get what you're saying. I've heard some of his sets that were pretty boring and i've heard some of his sets that were straight up fire. |
