Ocean and Lira seem like the only ones who know Japanese as Brazil does have a hefty Japanese population. Ocean's location flag is a japanese one.
Anyway here is a translation of what I was trying to say:
I have begun studying japanese because one day, I want to go to japan. But, I have to test in Chicago. Anyone know of any Japanese language books I could read? I only have the JLPT site to look at. |

I like it too, which is why I willingly put it up. I rarely have pictures of me that I like. :p |

Yes, that is me in the picture. What exactly are you trying to achieve by posting it here in a completely unrelated topic other than looking like a complete twat with terrible trolling skills? |
How could it be unrelated if we never knew what the topic was about in the first place? :p
And calm the down, I was just messing around in a Lafiver thread. Wasn't meant to be a diss at you. |

People swear by "Japanese for busy people" but it wasn't for me. My advice is to know hiragana and katakana inside-out, first. THen you can tackle the Kanji.
You can also buy Kanji cards on Amazon for JLPT 4&3. They are great.

There are graded readers for students. Work your way up and you should be just fine. Also, try to get publications available both in Japanese and in a language you already know (so you can compare).
What workbook/material are you using? |

Okay, that's not what you posted.
We used Genki in our classes (Japanese I and II). |

By the way, these are the textbooks I know:- Nihongo Shoho: Don't. Just don't. That's the one I used as an undergraduate. It was painful.
- Minna no nihongo: This is apparently the most popular course in Brazil due to its insane amount of material. There are videos, flashcards, inflatable teachers, and even books. Totally recommend it if you're a complete beginner.
- Pimsleur Method: Not really a textbook, and it won't teach you any writing/reading, but it will give you all the proficiency you need in the first couple of years. Awesome sauce.
- Linguaphone: Seems good. Never really used it though.
- Teach Yourself: Good for self-study, but I can't see it being used in a classroom. It's also useful probably just for your first steps.
