A few questions about getting started

I am interested in getting into the production of EDM. I mainly want to create my own songs and remix other peoples songs.
So my questions are:
1. What gear do I need to do this?
2. When it comes to computers, which is better? Mac or PC? Or is it personal preference?
3. I am not sure what your guy's stance is on Avicii and Deadmau5, but I have a question about how they get the sounds in their songs. For instance, in Bromance, how did he get the flute sound? Is that something he created? Or is it a default sound anyone could use?
And in deadmau5 song Strobe, are those all original sounds he created or did he just take generic sounds and tweak them?
4. When it comes to programs for creating music, which is the best or most respected?
Thats probably good for now. I really appreciate any answers I get!
Also, is there any good books or articles about creating EDM music and stuff related to that? And any good websites to find sounds to us when creating songs? |

You should post this in the production forum and read the stickies. Most of your questions have already been asked and discussed there.
Deadmau5 is a TA and actually posts on the production forum regularly. You can ask him all your questions there and he'll probably answer them when he reads them. Just be warned, there's a lot trolls there, so you'll probably get for talking about Deadmau5. Don't take it personal and don't let it get to you. Deadmau5 will probably get back to you. If not, other producers will. There's quite a few big ones there posting under different names.
