Hey!

Today is my first day on TA but not new to the EDM scene! I have been listening to dance music for as long as I can remember (started at the age of 3-4 with 2Unlimited). In my early teen years I was ashamed to tell people my about my music preference (at that time it was more hardstyle) because back then this music was frowned upon for someone my age (who knew nearly all of those people who judged me back then are now pill-gobbling cows going from one hardstyle event to the other! Oh, the irony). Anyway, my point is that I haven't been able to share my music taste with other people and all my friends aren't into any kind of dance music either. It just feels as if I'm missing out on so many amazing parties. Until recently this didn't bug me too much but I have noticed that I want to talk with more people from the scene, who share the love for EDM and trance. So here I am, on TranceAddict!

Now the reason why I actually made this post (sorry, once I start typing I can go on and on...). I was browsing the forums today and noticed that the activity on this forum was so much higher around the years 2002-2007. Is there an explanation for this? Is it just on this forum or have people actually given up trance? I have the feeling that the trance scene, and specially the whole EDM scene, is larger than ever.

I just hope I didn't miss the boat on this forum :)

Say, that's just like me! Well, except a decade your senior.:p

Music forum activity across the internet's died down, as older members move on in their lives and potential newer members stick to Facebook or YouTube comments instead for 'discussion'. As for TA, part of the exodus has been the relative absence of incinerary topics that were almost the norm back in the day. The lack of heated arguments can leave a forum cold.

Not many here follow contemporary trance, and those that do almost seem terrified to voice their opinions, lest they get thrashed for their tastes. Other potential newbies may be turned off by all the talk of electronic music at large, as most long-term members have developed eclectic tastes (and something of a fetish for older-sounding material).

facebook and twitter.

I don't like facebook tho. It goes way too fast. I think most old people prefer messageboards. Also , the yougins are not down with trance. Even if it has little to do with the site in general. Maybe we need a drug section.

I guess you're right, sadly enough. I personally don't find Facebook, Youtube or Twitter suited places for any type of discussion (Facebook being the best of those 3 still). It's all nothing more than opinion shouting without elaborating or discussing anything.

As I said in my previous post, I used to be ashamed about my music preference. Not anymore so I am not at all afraid to share my opinion about the current trance, I like it. I think the community around it is still close and harmonious, even though I don't like the whole social media hype. Despite this fact, the power of it amazes me and my study (communication & multimedia design) forces me to understand, participate and design for it.

EDM as it is today wouldn't be at this point without social media, it is a very powerful tool. Some hate this but I for one like the place trance is at now. I also like the whole A State of Trance vibe. This doesn't mean that I deny the fact that there is a lot of garbage out there that is produced just for the sake of it being out there and getting sold. But is that such a big deal?

Music is just as everything else out there, it evolves. Many people can't or wont adept, some need to get used to it, others will love it and then there are those who just then start loving it. For each of these type of people there will be something for them to love, it might just be called different.

Some people will probably disagree with my view on trance (or EDM in general for that matter) but I don't mind, I used to but not anymore.

BTW, don't get me wrong, I love the original type of trance just as much as I do with the current state of it. Hell, I grew up with it! I enjoy any type of electronic music, some more than others but that's just normal. It fascinates me to see how new genres are born and others change or split up.

Hi.
Trance sucks.
Techno is cool, though.
Smoke weed everyday.
AnotherWay83
it just became too commercialized, that's all.

I'm surprised about that. I'm probably 10 years older and never had that problem here in the south. I listened to all back then, even some hardcore. No problem talking about any music genre in those days.

Well I don't know why...I'm from the south as well (Noord Brabant). But I live in a very small town and went to a very small elementary and highschool where if you were a bit different people would judge immidiatly. Perhaps there were others the same as me, thinking they couldn't talk about it. Or perhaps it was my age, 12 at that time.

Could be the age. I lived in a town with only 400 people, they don't get a lot smaller :) And 80 were nuns...
