How loud is the music at concerts generally? I'm going to the Swedish House Mafia tour in SF and I want to know if it'll be freaking loud or just kinda loud.

Not loud enough to matter.

what does that even mean?

Depends on how sensitive your hearing is. Here the maxmimum you can legally have (at least for clubs) is 115db which is pretty ing loud. According to Google 115db is also the average loudness of an rock concert so around that area.

It won't improve the quality of your experience, one iota, to have it so loud that your ears are ringing by the end of the night.

I think he was rather asking in the opposite direction, ie. he was concerned that it might be too loud.

It can vary from venue to venue, depending on the quality of the sound system and the engineer, and also where you are in the room relative to the configuration of the soundsystem.

A great soundsystem should be equally loud across all frequencies anywhere on the dancefloor. They say the mark of a great soundsystem is that the music is perfectly loud and punchy, but you can still talk to someone next to you without shouting. I've only ever encountered a couple of such systems.

I'm sure it will be just right once Little Red Riding Hood's ears attenuate to the meter-pinning limited just below the speaker protection threshold.

The thing that most people forget about is that clubs generally have awful room acoustics since the venues weren't made for that purpose and clubs don't exactly have a lot of options when it comes to venues. You can never get the clarity and quality like you would get in a concert hall, for example. Badly set up systems and bad engineers and DJs don't help, obviously.

That's a rather bizarre statement.

How so? Most clubs are in venues that once used to warehouses or something similiar. What I mean is that when they where originally build the purpose of the building wasn't to music play in it. In case the problem here is a misunderstanding - I am referring to the actual building the club is in.

It will be loud, so bring ear plugs or you may regret it.
