Dj setup help needed

Hey folks

I recently sold my 2 cdj2000's for an upgrade to the nexus. I have been using cdj's since the release of the 1000's and have always loved them.

I have a dim900, rmx1000 and also a MacBook pro in the dj setup. Most of the time I have just used the 2 cdj's.

I held of ordering the nexus just because of some thoughts to wether I want to change my style of equipment s something like what PVD has.

I am not massively trained and skilled on musical theory to be able to recreate tracks live like PVD does but watching him play and what he's able to do makes me wonder if cdj's are a little behind time now and damn right expensive for what they really are.

Im not massively keen on the traktor feel but I do use ableton for production and edits. Still learning thou.

Is anybody able to explain exactly what PVD uses and does with his live dj sets. I always find that PVD very creative and interesting to watch and listen to. He just inspires me when I see him.

What do you guys suggest for me use for the next few years. I am unsure wether to turn to 2 laptops, maybe traktor, keep using the cdj's or transform my setup completely with turning purely to the laptop based setup with ableton etc.

Please help guys, I just don't wanna waste 3k on cdj's and wish I had gone in another direction.

I really look forward to hearing your suggestions.

Thanks folks

What kind of upgrade do you give the nexus from selling your cdj2000's?

Sync and quantize....

.

Defo wouldnt use the sync. I do class myself as a good dj
Havin started on vinyl over 12 years ago. This is why I don't like the
Traktor feel to things. I love the slip function and wanted to be as up to
Date as possible so not to be too far behind. I just feel I want to be more creative with things and seeing what pvd, Richie hawtin, etc do these days I feel cdjs don't tick the boxes.

What do u suggest.
junkproject
PVD does not sync, Richie does use sync. I believe PVD uses 2 laptops with live on both laptops and midi keyboard for each laptop. One laptop is deck A the other is deck B. Nothing wrong with Richie using sync tho.

Play better music.

Problem solved.

The fact that you use PVD and Richie as benchmarks in 2012 is kind of...sad.

The only DJs that feel the need to get more "creative" in terms of mixing are the ones that don't play very creative music to begin with.
djfearny
Hahaha

Great reply, shame u got Nowt good to say.

I'm using pvd as examples of the setup they use not the music they play.

If u have good ideas on a possible chane of equipment like the post explained then fine. Otherwise go annoy someone as simple minded ad urself.

oooh nice comeback!!
junkproject
To each to their own. One's own taste in music\style does not make it de facto, when it comes to music.

Leave it out. Seriously.

Shouldn't need a good comeback when I'm asking fellow music producers and djs about the thing they love, and the reason you should be looking at this forum.
