its one thing to want people to mourn for you. fine. i gave a moment of silence, my thoughts for a little while. but its another thing to FORCE someone to "mourn" for an entire day. call me selfish, fine... but sorry, i dont like being forced to do , especially when it oversteps my bounds of sympathy. and forcing 1000 people, most of which are NOT americans, to not talk for an entire day because of one person's vision of mourning, is not cool. |
First of all who is "YOU" you are referring to and who is forcing you to do anything? It's this guys site HE can do whatever the hell he wants with HIS site. If Swamper wants to shut down HIS website on a day when 3000 canadians are killed that's HIS perogative. If YOU don't like it ... you don't have to use it. If you don't like the news on tv ... don't watch it. I would love it for you to go to a country where you're actually FORCED to do something. |

I have no problem with the 9/11 remeberance on 9/11/02, especially only a year after the attack, but I have a HUGE problem with showing that 9/11 stuff basically all year long, even here in Europe!! |

Ya, basically the anniversary news coverage is fine, but i think most people have had enough of the story and the visual images of 911. |
Agree.... Dont forget the word "Muslim" is up just as much as "911" or "Terrorism" I hate what has happened, im talkin about all of it. whenever i say my name to some one, they look at me twice, and judge me differently. Whats happened has happened, instead of lookin at past, we should look towards future to prevent stuff like this from happening, use it as a stepping stone.
Just my thoughts... |

ok, i'll start...
you f-ing dumb piece of worthless lowlife...people like you suck!!! :whip: you know why, cause you have nothing to do with me, i don't know you, i could care less about you, all of your family and your friends have no impact on me, why the hell should i care if your country gets attacked and innocent people die. :whip:
counts to 10...
"i just don't care...sorry to all the US ta's"...isn't it ironic that you would use these statements in this sequense. nobody that was close to me died in that tragedy, thank god, but it should be something that i do care about. i didn't know anyone who also died in the holocaust, but again it's also something i should care about. i could keep going on and on with bunch of things that has happend in our history that were bad in nature, but shouldn't be overlooked just because it didn't affect me directly. look, nobody wants your sympathy, just some respect. i personally feel that we are too bombarded with this 9/11 stuff, but i'm also respectful. if its on tv, and i don't want to watch it, i don't. if someone wants to mourn in such a way, i let them. if it bothers you that much, i would hope that you could just ignore it for ONE day just for the people who want to pay their respects for the fallen...or even this whole week leading to 9/11...or at least i would hope so. |

well, actually, two people own the channel/fansubbing group. the second person was EXTREMELY not happy with the whole channel being forced into silence for an entire day. so much, in fact, that it split up the group (as we just found out yesterday).
i am probably coming off as cold hearted, just like some other people in the thread... but let me put it differently.
if i am going to spend a day mourning for someone, i will do it for one of my best friends since kindergarten, whose dad is expected to die within the week of liver failure/cancer.
if i am going to spend the day mourning for someone, i will give just as much thought to the thousands and thousands and thousands of people who died in car crashes this year in our country... or all the friends, husbands, wives, children who were murdered. none of them ever got a day of mourning, none of them even got a second glance.
if people want to mourn, thats fine. but once it started interfering with my life and inconveniencing me, yes, it starts to bother me. not just because im inconvenienced, but i wonder why these people are getting special treatement and effectively taking up a whole day of our lives ACROSS THE GLOBE, when a LOAD more people than that died last year just in car crashes, and none of you have to watch the news or tv channels all day with memorials to them dying.
its just like when someone famous dies, they get all the hype... yet no one else does.
my 2 cents. |

channel/fansubbing group is your life???
i live in d.c., and there was load of stuff going on here and not a single thing involving 9/11 INCONVENIENCED my life.
so it's OK for your channel/fansubbing group to shut down for other people dying except the people of the wtc or someone famous???
you're just as bad as the media...just like them, you judge whose deaths should and shouldn't not get attention. |

did i say that? stop putting words in my mouth.
there are many things that are a part of my life. in fact, all the things that i do in one day constitute a day in my life (imagine that!), thus, that one little thing did interfere with my life in some fashion.

yes, i admit, im sorry that i feel like ALL DEATHS should get equal attention, considering every single ing person who dies creates loss for someone else.
how can you tell me im like the media? the media is giving off the message that these 2,000 something people are more important than the HUNDRED THOUSANDS that die each year related to other causes. i am clearly saying that i dont think anyone should get special treatment. please get your analogies straight before responding again.

durrr.. once again, you arent listening to what im saying. im saying i think its ridiculous in any aspect. OR... if places get to be on hiatus for an entire day (media, anywhere).. then everyone else sure as hell better get the same treatment. how come person A's loss gets to be more important than person B's loss because of who they know, or circumstances surrounding their death? needs to be all or nothing, as far as im concerned. |

...of hearing about 9/11 every 5 damn minutes? :wtf: yes, it was a tragic day. yes, many people lost their lives, but i sometimes get the feeling that we americans just LOVE feeling sorry for ourelves and getting sympathy. personally, i've had enough. it's time to get on with our lives.

finally, somebody who agrees with me. :D |

It HAS turned into a circus. Its one thing to pay respect, like Rememberance Day, its another thing to exploit it and turn it into an internatinal spectacle, I think its shameful and embarassing, alot of people are just jumping on the bandwagon.
However, I do give respect for those who actually understand the loss suffered that day.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone comes up with a fly your plane into the tower flash game in a couple of months. :P I mean, someone already did it with suicide bombers. :P Of course people would be more offended, for reasons I won't elaborate. |

i'll put it as simple as i can for you:
1. i didn't put words in your mouth. YOU said the anniv. of 9/11 casued interferences and inconviences for your life. and the only example YOU mentioned was the channel/fansubbing group that had to remain silent for a whole 24 hours. futhermore if that was the only thing that impacted "all the things that i do in one day constitute a day in my life", then what a exciting life to live.
2. once a death occurs, the media will "value" this death and will try to find if it will be meaningful enough to broadcast so as to get the most viewers to watch as possible. YOU pass the judgement that all deaths are should be equal, that "considering every single ing person who dies creates loss for someone else." then, if all deaths are equal, why did you go on to say that
[QUOTE]"if i am going to spend a day mourning for someone, i will do it for one of my best friends since kindergarten, whose dad is expected to die within the week of liver failure/cancer.[QUOTE]
i'm sure that this caused an inconvience did it not? or is it not a inconvience because you are putting this death more valuable than the deaths of 2,000. either way, you put your interests over someone else's, therefore, you do not value every death equally.
3. do you honestly believe that all deaths are equal??? c'mon sothis, i think you're being a little too naive. martin luther king's death should be treated as equally as jeffery dahmer's. john f. kennedy's death should be treated equally as thousands of people on death row. or how about princess dianne and hitler, should we respect their deaths the same. |
