Like Atlantis. Any of those dudes still around?

You might try sending him a PM. He may get notification, via e-mail, if he's not checking the boards frequently. I believe his full username was Atlantis-AR.

MSZ mastered one of my projects. Dunno if he still does masters, but I would like to give a shout out to him because I was satisfied, it probably won't hurt to pm him.

I don't think Atlantis posts on TA much anymore. Let me know if you want his contact.

Are you looking for a mastering engineer or a mixing engineer?

Mastering engineer = your mix sounds great, all the sounds are clear, you want transparent gain increase and (potentially?) treatment of ultra low end which can only be reproduced accurately on full-range mastering speakers.

Mixing engineer = you're not happy with some of the sounds in your mix, you want the mix to sound better.

Pretty sure he's just looking for a mastering engineer.

Strictly a mastering engineer. Thanks Raph, I'll PM you sometime. I have Atlantis on MSN but he's rarely on.

When mastering engineers don't list clients or things they have done, it is a pretty good sign of their "skill" . Mastering engineers are never anonymous. Your portfolio is your list of credits so when you have someone with a website showing pictures of expensive compressors and no mention of any actual work, well it should make you a little skeptical.

I find raphie's mastering as far as the people on here that have had there stuff mastered still the work of an amateur. But i suppose he won't charge if you don't like it. But most people don't really know what something mastered well should sound like so liking something isn't always a good indicator. You are paying them for a second opinion.

Another thing to look for are those that go right to mastering. Ie Raphie. Nobody that is known for mastering has done this. The simple truth is that people that can't mix tend to go to mastering because it is something you can fake rather easily with a few presets and a bit of reading and a decent presentation. So ya, just somethings to keep in mind.

I would email lolo. He is on here enough and would know someone competent in the style you are doing.

I was kind of spoiled for a while. My sister's ex-boyfriend is a studio genius with all the right gear, learned a couple mastering techniques from SHM and Olav Basoski, but they broke up and aren't on good terms... normally I could have him do it and it would sound flawless. He has mastered one or two of my tracks, but he always said there was way too much headroom left over, and I get it now. That was at least a year ago, probably 2. My unmastered mixes are pretty loud and clear now, as opposed to then, so I kinda miss having him around.

But I am doing things pragmatically. I would rather have the track not listened to or played out, than to have a ty master. Yeah, part of the 1%. So what?
