Agreed, never liked how high up the booth was there.

It did have a monster sound system though.

so shed some light on the matter

I mean I obviously have no real idea but I assumed they screwed over enough artists and promoters and couldn't generate enough business anymore..

I never thought the sound was that great down on the floor. Maybe the system was amazingly designed, but something wasn't right Maybe the DJs were clipping the mixers or the sound guys were pushing the amps too hard or something, but it always sounded like a hot mess down there to me, and yeah, too ing loud. Sorry I'm old I guess, but 27 years old and I have hearing loss already.

nah i agree with you
first time i went there was for digweed and the bass was too overpowering and loud
same thing happend for a few other parties i went to after

finally for luciano and then carlo lio/dj vibe
the sound was tweeked and it sounded great
i didnt even leave with a ringing in my ear or nothing
very smooth and crisp

even though that system needed tweeking and the booth was high...thou shall not speak badly of Gary's masterpiece!

It's more about having the right sound guy to handle the beast, than the system itself! I know there was a few months at Club Love where the sound wasn't really its usual self. I think they had the sub-booth woofers off for a couple months. Then they brought it to the right level and the rest was history..

Some systems need a lot of maintenance and hands-on attention, especially Gary's rigs.

Being one level up and removed from the floor sometimes it made it challenging to know exactly how it sounded in the room. I think Ruben did a great job, learned fast, and adapted accordingly to it.

He had a lot of work to do as far as setting up DJ gear as well throughout the nights at D36 - hats off to him, always kept his cool and was great to work with :)

The sound booth was up top which probably didn't help.

Plus many DJs are infamous for making mixer mistakes, like pushing their channel gains, using positive EQ, running with external effects without tweaking gain levels to compensate for added volume, etc etc.

It's pretty cool that a lot of the new mixing borads coming out have iPad apps for adjusting the levels, so you could in theory be a sound guy and go down into the crowd after the DJ comes on and adjust the levels to compensate. Especially since clubs don't usually do a soundcheck with the actual DJ every night. This might be some high hopes though, when I manage my own club.... :D

Wireless control would have been ideal for District. The club didn't really have a sound board though.

Good luck with your own ventures!

So when Sankeys takes over the space, will they redesign the place? :)

I guess you could ask Sankey's if you think that's whats happening?
lounger540
You know, the size and layout isn't much different than Sankey's Ibiza. They just need to add that LED ceiling and bring the booth down and it would be nearly the same.
