... if you're bored.

One of the questions is "what does EDM mean to you?"

Most of the dj's were saying "its my life" or "it's my heart and soul" or "makes me want to pee" n like that. The real dj's (imo) always had a more honest answer.

Whenever I hear the term EDM I think of American 16-year-olds with glow-sticks and t-shirts with prints saying 'Let's RAGE'.

It has been created so journalists in the USA can understand a term for electronic music rather than call it club music.

I don't know... just thought it was interesting.

I'd rather hear the term EDM than techno to describe any kind of electronic music.

"Club music" includes top 40 and hip hop, which is not EDM. Good job there, digweed. :haha:

e: guess he was referring to the US, missed that part

Electronic music is what Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis made.

When I hear the term "EDM" I think of exactly what Eric Prydz is saying and think of the many massive festivals with thousands of kids in the USA gathered around, destroying the "scene" one party at a time. :whip:

I'd prefer the word Electronica over EDM any day.

I ing hate to say it, but Deadmau5 has really gained my respect of late. You know what he answered on that poll? Nothing.

He has definitely made a turn for the better in the past year, artistically and musically.

I love prydz' answer on this b/c the most annoying "rave fashion" trend I've seen are the single color shirts with some juvenile 4 word phrase stacked vertically in all caps. ing lame. Nothing says "i'm a giant douche" more loudly than wearing a tshirt saying "EAT MOLLY MUNCH ".

Saw a guy at SPACE with a shirt that read "PARTY WITH SLUTS," he looked like a total dumbass.

The word EDM makes my skin crawl. It's a generic term used to wrap up all the genre's in one ty package. I don't listen to EDM, I listen to Techno, Minimal, House, Trance, and etc. not EDM! The worst part is that the DJ's we idolized before this commercialization, are using the word EDM as a buzzword to spread their brand to the neon colored bro's and s out there.

can someone tell me where the word RAGE came from? is it from another genre that crossed over?.. i dont understand how the u can rage to certain djs ..lets say Above & Beyond?? does it stand for something like PLUR? .. serious question

as someone who has a website with 'edm' in the name, i felt it was the best catchall to try and hit all bases. i get that it gets associated with festivals and newbies, but i don't think there is a better single word to use.
