Hmmm, I think I understand. I can't recall this ever being a problem or someting. I think if you listen to the track, like everyone else said, you will just 'get it'.

like last night..i opened for dj sammy..well the vocalist. and a track started to slip.
and i didnt think about..is it faster..or slower..i just grabbed the pitch..and the instinct just told me which to move it..if you quit worrying about which is faster..and which is slower..you will be better off. a good friend of mine told..me find the groove of each track*example* like the symbol on the track. great thing. its apart of the groove..once you have your symbols on..its just minor tuning to get the highs on..and then a wittle matching for the kick. but on a big system the kicks arent even really important

a large system is always so forgiving
thats why when u hear a live set..the djs are off..ALOt. but live at the party..or in the club..u dont hear..cause the bass drown each other out
so match the grooves..and u can never go wrong

amen!!!! :D

ok personally this is what i do if anyone could comment would be much appreciated:
basically only lately ive been able to beatmatch tunes that was a big jump from just unsynced pieces of crap :D oh and phrase match... so what i do mainly with my tunes is try to match them and once thats done, then get really specific and constantly correct it like minor minor adjustments, like letting it run for say 64/128 beats and making a adjustment to that with the pitch... and thats how i utilise my time before (so theres less correcting of the record) mixing in the next record i guess just trying to get the beats perfect for as long as i can, but this method of using hi hats sounds good :) how does that work? is it something like breakbeat mixing? you try and get your hi hats in sync just like your bassdrum? once you do does the tracks just sound alot better? rather than the bassdrums overlapping/phasing? it would be very handy as basslines arnt always all through the track as you were sayin (Shockwave)
ok cheers!

Don't know if any of you do this but I always like to match my two tracks by matching beats with melodies. Ive found that this has helped my beatmatching remarkably well. its harder than matching beats, but I find once ive locked a beat with a melody, I have no problems with the mix

i want to share a little tip that has somewhat helped me when DJing,
my friends DO NOT like electronica, this being a latino country,
they like emrengue, salsa, reggaeton and such. so when i DJ i am
pretty much 'biting my tongue' so to speak, pissed off cuz i cant
play the music i really want to. when i started, i didnt know
wtf beatmatching was, i just had the simple concept of:

'if they can all dance with both songs on @ the same time,
and it sounds good, why go any further'

electronica music in general has a structure, merengue and salsa
have theirs too, as all music does, but its much more complex
and has a lot more variables. whats my point? when youre beatmatching
think, "with both these tracks on @ the same time, can i dance
normally?" if you can, and it sounds good, the crowd isnt going to
go up un tell you 'YOU SKIPPED A PHRASE! YOU SUCK AS A DJ AND SHOULD
HAVE NEVER BEEN BORN!!!' theyre all busy shaking there asses, going
nuts about the music, so as long as you don't kill the groove,
and it sounds good, the crowd wont really notice. if by listening
to the current song on one ear, the other in your headphones
and you cant boogy to both at once, still needs a little pitch
tweaking.

and... HAVE FUN! TIS WHAT DJing IS ABOUT!

I don't understand the tip you've mentioned... What I normally do is get the cue vinyl to beatmatch while the other track is playing ... let the cue keep playing and i constantly check on the headphones too see if it's still in sync. Then I move it back to where I want to start after i start to play the cue i just use the headphones for the first few beats and take them off my ears and concentrate on the transitions. Also during the transitions i only use the bass, cross fader and line input to mix.. nothing else is touched... I still need to try different techniques...:)

Greets to all the DJs! :D

I think the way of djing is getting a lot different depending on kinds of music!I think you all agree! But the basic idea is that you have to beatmatch the tracks and crossfade or do other trickies during the crossfade! ;) Heh, of course all of these "trickies" are a matter of experience... Anyway, I believe that, for trance music, it's better to be based on kicks and hihats together! It has helped me a lot, I do mostly rely on hihats!

But heh, what the fack? We are not all the same! That's why so many kinds of mixing exist! Don't ask me how do I mix with the hihats, unless you are mixing the same way.I just can't explain the way I mix in trance music! :(
DJ_Shockwav
what i do is use the basslines to get in the same general area (rough beatmatching if you will)
then i focus on the hi end to get the mix in really fine, the basslines then just end up becoming almost perfectly matched and you're good to go

it's just like mixing breaks, and it worked wonders for my mixing :)

This is really interesting reading, keep feeding the thread! :)

Some good information everyone! Thanks and keep it coming! I'm still quite new and my technique still unrefined to offer any good advice. Practice, practice, practice!! :)
