I'm not sure if this question has been posed to you all before, but I felt I'd ask MD for their thoughts on this subject. Suppose a person who was once deaf receives a high powered, high quality, crisp sounding cochlear implant. You are tasked with making him/her a mixtape (let's shoot for about 60 minutes) of music to introduce them to the world of sound. Try to keep it at 10 tracks or less and explain why you chose each.

I would just play them Dark Side of the Moon and we'd drink a nice tall glass of raw milk while listening to it.

Well, I don't imagine THUMP UNTZ THUMP UNTZ would be agreeable to his formerly silent world...I'd have to stick to classical/easy listening, I think.
I'd probably just throw down Ravel's Daphne et Chloe. Has a very idyllic introduction, leading to sweeping crescendoes fanning orchestration so lush it's almost a physical sensation. For one of the most beautiful melodies in the world go to 4:09 - 4:25, and it only gets better from there...

Haha, definitely.
Suburban Train wouldn't be a bad idea, though.

Probably some mellow drone ambient that has a pulse to it. It would be what such a listener would be most familiar with, as the vibrations would be similar to that of being in the womb.
