Cubase-Windows-Vst's_compatible Etc??

Been out of production for some time.. i used to run cubase 3 on xp along with waves vst's and battery as my main tools.
Im considering getting a laptop made for producing but am unsure about using windows 7 or 8 in regard of whats compatible with it these days..
Ive tons of software but only run correctly on xp!
Thoughts views suggestions highly appreciated?? |

| Cubase runs really well on Win7. No idea what it's like on Win8, but it probably runs well too. |

even my soundcard hasnt got an updated driver from xp so its useless unless running xp lol
Im guessing ill just have to bite the bullet and buy new vst's that dont update and say goodbye to a lot of my collection |
