Sample Wars

Wasn't sure where to put this.
I just finished uploading a website specifically for EDM engineers and their fans. No no, it doesn't cost money. It's free.

What is SampleWars.com?
In samplewars you battle other producers while fans rate and comment on your battles. The whole system works off a rating system so you have the ability to become the

best audio engineer on the site, and gain real recognition with your and others' fans.

When a battle is created you are given a sample limit option. Let's say you click "10 Samples". The match will be created with 10 random samples from the SWDB (samplewars database) which

are uploaded by our users and rated on as well. (both in regards to quality, and genre placement). You MUST use these samples in your song. Rating users have been told to downvote songs not

using the samples, and they will. Everyone loves to dislike, watch out. If you're late with your song upload, you can also suffer an ingame credits, rating, and thumbs/votes penalty. It's a

2^n penalty which means first day is 1 credit/like/rating, second is 2c/rl/r, 4c/l/r, 8, 16, 32, 64. You get the point, it adds up.

There's a lot more to the site, and lots more to come including custom comment skins (which can be bought with ingame credits or 5$ for the lazy) and stuff to really show off your abilities like achievements and challenges. There will also be more game styles, like ladder where you fight your way up the ranks in a 1v10 battle, or frankenbattle which only uses Horror samples, or a speed battle which has a max 2 day limit and as many more as you guys can help me think up. I want to make the game REALLY interesting and I'm starting to run dry on ideas, so it's time to release it.

Right now the site is in BETA stages, and I need players to work out all the kinks in the random systems, the vote systems, the cash systems, and lots of other things.

It's been a ridiculously tiring month as I sat coding this thing until 7 am and then going to work at 9 am every day, but i'll tell you what. It's totally worth it. We finally have a place to play around with eachother. Now come battle me! >=)

Signed,

I like the idea. /mu/ has had a few threads about this sort of thing, and some of them have turned out pretty cool :)
It all really depends on the samples though.
InnerReflection
Yes I like the idea

Will it affect the average quality of electronic music in a positive way, probably not

Will it actually produce music I like, probably not much

Will it be interesting and worth quite a bit of a look (especially for people who are into simpler genres like cheese trance, hardstyle or cheesy dubstep) absolutely, could be very interesting. I'm signing up to do some voting (whether or not there's any content there yet) now.

Also, your signup page doesn't render properly on the latest version of firefox. Many pages aren't rendering properly. What browser is this designed to be used for? Chrome?

Also, if I help out with the beta of your site can I use you as a reference for any game beta signups I might try out for in the future? Definitely will be a motivated tester if that's the case :gsmile:

I agree. I had the same thoughts while thinking it up, it's part of the reason I added genres. I want people not only to be able to battle in a certain genre, but also look up a certain genre to vote on. I don't want people to have to go through a whole assortment of genres if they really only like ambient and only want to hear/vote-on ambient songs.

What's breaking on firefox? Is the div moving up? I'm having problems in IE as well. My firefox seems fine on that page though, i'll update it and see if it breaks here too. Thanks for letting me know!

Sure thing, i'm pretty into testing betas too. I get keys all the time, let me know what you're trying to get into, maybe I can help as well I used to test for mmorpg.com.

/mu/?
I agree, it really depends on the samples. I'm thinking once there's a larger amount of samples I'll make it so samples with below a certain rank won't be fetched for battles. That way it'll keep at least the samples people THINK are good in the rotation and not those which are simply bad. If you guys have better ways of doing things, let me know. right now it's all about getting the machine working well, and there's no better way to do that than by brainstorming imo.
InnerReflection
There's little point describing it. I'll just post a picture and I see anything else broken then I'll post pictures of that too.

The train button doesn't work either and just links me back to the main page (I'm guessing that's a WIP).

There was a problem rendering the register page after I successfully signed up but I can't really see that without making a new hotmail account and signing up again.

So with the samples things, is there gonna be quotes from movies? Could just be only obscure/older than 5 years ones if you're worried about copyright (I've never heard of anyone so much as getting a cease and desist for having a sample from a movie in a track though).
thevvv
hmm.. do me a favor. go into the train section at the top, hit cpanel, and download the profilepic template and then reupload it to the profile and see if it fixes it. Maybe it's because the propic is empty.

the train section IS index.php right now and the homepage till there's need for a landing page with condensed info. at the moment there's not special info to show.
InnerReflection
I know where the control panel is but I'm not sure where the profilepic thing is. Do you have msn? Might just be quicker with some form of IM communication (I have skype, msn, xfire and could get yahoo or anything else if that helps).

Honestly most of all I want to help out if possible cos I can. It's nice to do people favours.

thevvv
Actually, in that picture you posted there's the change button, but not the "choose file" button. I changed your picture though, let me know if it fixed it.

Also, I have skype but not really anything else.
pm me your skype name i'll add you. i think there's groups in skype, maybe we will make one for this.
