Not sure if this caused it but my power went out earlier today.
Turned on my keyboard just now with no response. Swapped USB cable and ports. Wiggled the USB cable around and it came on for a second. Now no response from LED screen, but do get an error message from windows when I turn it on (usb device not recognized).
Any suggestions on what to do before I open it up and see if I can spot any damage? |

First try it in a different PC. The use a different USB cable. Long shots but you never know.
Other than that, it sound like the USB controller is shot and basically, you're ed; it will work out more expensive to fix the thing than it's worth (unless it;s under warranty).
If you do want to open it up, I can help. It may be a simple thing like a bad solder joint on the USB port which will take you 5 mins to fix.
Other than that, it could be a loose ribbon connector.
here's a DIY fixit guide I wrote a couple of years back for a different keyboard but essentially they are all the same.
All you'll need is a screwdriver and some switch or contact cleaning fluid (usually in a spray can). You may want a small knife to scratch and contacts with too.

Good luck and let me know how you get on! |

Opened it up. The solder contacts on the USB port came loose. Unfortunately, it looks like it also lifted up and split the circuit trace for those connections as well. Do you know if that is fixable or am I pretty much stuck with getting a new controller at this point? Any chance M-Audio would send me a replacement circuit board? |
