Actually the first time I've heard anyone say this....always, ALWAYS hear how Exchange is a great venue, but the vibe just isn't there. At least not yet.

People who are associated with Exchange don't count.

i have fun at both... i only go to see specific djs anyway and the 'vibe' is fine at either place IMO.

It depends on the night. There are nights that people go for a specific DJ who doesn't draw a big crowd and the standard crowd doesn't recognize, so the vibe isn't there. And there are nights with a popular DJ that packs the place and the vibe is there till closing time. On an average night the crowd is not much different than a Playhouse or Sutra or the old Naked crowd, i.e. at a minimum you have the front row and bottle crowd going.

What ing nonesense are you lot talking about?

Avalon, for a club of it's size and stature (LA's only 6am large club) has a truly horrible sound system.

Go to Vanguard and hear that Funktion1, then tell me Avalon system is any good.

Please, someone put them in touch with Funktion1 or Martin Audio.

Beatport seams to think it's #5 in the US.

FYI the owner of Avalon designs some very well regarded club sound systems. Having said that i really don't spend time on the dancefloor at Avalon so i can't say how it sounds in the middle of the action.

last couple of times i've been to Vanguard it was way out of tune.

To me none of the major club systems have distinguished themselves to me as being really good or really bad right now.

Don't remember much about Vanguard's sound system but with the talent they are booking they are no competition to the other clubs anyway.

Does the age of the crowd have anything to do with the vibe? I haven't been to Avalon in forever but it seems Exchange has a younger crowd, no?

That's because Vanguard ownership tried to go Hip Hop right as mainstream EDM was exploding. Seriously Bad move. Saturday night died there.

They started allowing promoters to put on house nights again but they didn't have the booking power ever since giant moved on.

Honestly, the two systems don't compare in terms of quality - Avalon is a slightly more difficult layout to engineer for but still, the Funktion1 at Vanguard is leagues better. Much better clarity both on bass and mids, especially around 1k where the snare is, which gives EDM that snap.

Ok, so I'm exaggerating a little when I say Avalon's is bad, it;s still fine but no match for Vanguard.

Just a shame you don't Avalon's promoters/bookings at Vanguard.
