Really there is a greater chance your hypothesis is correct.
Your hypothesis gives 3 possibilities of Bond being the best; with 6 possible Bonds, that's a 50% chance.
Now, Lazenby played Bond in 1969, so it's doubtful many readers of TA grew up with him as Bond, or with him fitting into your other two categories. So really only 5 possibilities.
You're a genius! :p
Hah! See, I told you there's a fair chance my hypothesis is correct :D
And if my hypothesis isn't correct, then I don't want to be right

For me Roger Moore.
A cousin met him last weekend at a charity golf event or something. He still has humor at age of 85.
At facebook someone asked my cousin about the Bond Girls.
He answered: "Unfortunately they were 85 too" LOL.

Lira calls people "mate", uses "bloody" as a curse and speaks in a weird hybrid Commonwealth accent. Surely he's the certified Anglophile in this thread?
I always find GoldenEye the best Bond film, although that's probably nostalgia and associations with the videogame, which was even better than the film. From Russia With Love, You Only Live Twice and Casino Royale are also on the shortlist.
As for best Bond, it depends on whether you're judging it on individual performance or the quality and feel of the films each actor appeared in. Roger Moore may be the closest Bond to the Ian Fleming character, but all the Moore films were and the franchise seemed to get lost in aimless '70s camp during his tenure. Connery is probably the most iconic Bond because the early films are the most iconic (Dr No, Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice in particular, are the most commonly-parodied).
