| quote: | | Things aren't looking great for the German club scene at present. Earlier in the week the news came of Cocoon's closure, and now, despite an online petition that has received over 60,000 signatures, German Parliament has made the decision that it will not be taking action against GEMA. As Resident Advisor reports, German Secretary of State Max Stadler avoided the issue by suggesting that the supporters of the petition should form a compromise with GEMA over tariffs on tracks played at clubs and festivals. The petition, which began circulating in August, protests the "GEMA presumption," that GEMA's methods of deciding tariffs for clubs and festivals is inaccurate, as it is impossible to decipher which tracks were or weren't written by producers who are GEMA members. The ignored petition is another blow for Berlin, and Germany's, thriving club scene, and could spell the end for many of the scene's most popular venues, as they cannot afford the tarriffs imposed by GEMA. |

I just don't understand the argument that the bigger clubs will not be able to afford the tariffs. Is there cover when you go to these clubs? So, if entrance at Berghain is 14euros. Why can't they just make it 15euros and allocate that cover increase towards the new tariff hike. I know it sucks but they will just have to pass it on to the consumer.
Am i making any sense or just talking out my ass? |
