I think these guys (the DJ's/Producers) have to put the whole genre topic behind them. None of us could care less what the music is actually called when grouping it into specific genre names. It's the actual quality of music that is in question. And this is something that Markus (when he came on his forums) and Jono/Tony did not address. Their production quality is regressing. It's progressing in terms of the current fads/trends, thats for sure, but other than that, its all . I can honestly say (and i think i'm speaking for the majority of us "keyboard warriors") that I will NOT be playing any tracks from Scream and Group Therapy 10 years from now. It's pure garbage. Who cares if we wanna call it Trance 2.0 or Trouse or whatever. Fact of the matter is Markus, Scream was brutal. Fact of the matter is Tony, Jono, and Paavo, Group Therapy was sub-par and so are your livesets/radioshows now. I've had it with them defending the whole genre topic..why dont you address the actual quality of your music? Trance is what got me into dance music however it's starting to become the very thing that'll be my exit from dance music. Either that or I've gotta start listening to more proper techno and progressive house. :whip:

Thanks for sharing the quotes though Diablo, was an interesting read. Even though it happened to set me off haha. Wish i lived in a city like NYC where all kinds of dance music occurs and not just big name sell outs.

A very valid point and something very odd about modern music in general:

When you look at classical, for ex. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven just to name some standards, there was a progression, not regression, their whole lives.
Change sure, but they got deeper and more contemplative, with a little less youthful flair perhaps.
That's where you get Beethoven writing really the first jazz music ever (piano sonata 32, last movement, check it to see) or some almost modern abstract stuff in The Art of the Fugue.

More the rule than the exception in that so-called "serious" music

Now forward to post 1945:

About what artist or group of significance can we really say that they didn't produce their most significant work early on?

Led Zep from I to 1980? nope
U2 (as mentioned from the Anjuna forum)? nope
Stones or Floyd? nope
REM? nope, and so on
(ok, see the Avatar, another example).
And while it may not be true for the Beatles (the pre LSD pop-rock vs Revolver/S.Peppers>), too short of a career, and very doubtful that with many more years, they would have kept up that 3/4 year run

Bruce is an exception of sorts:
song-wise I'd stick with the above, but live performance wise, not so much

OK, just picking "rock" as an example, sorry, don't do much jazz and with Miles being an exception, but somehow these days, as artists get older, it regresses, as thefunk points out for those guys...

wonder why now, but not in the past?

Maybe because they had to pander to a smaller audience, and their bills were paid, sometimes, by truer cognoscenti? ... less chance to sell-out?

The allure of playing to 15k people at $75+ a pop is hard to cast off.
(the MSG SHM stuff, or Kaskade's shows)

And, mass taste is always , cause you gotta broaden the common denominator to get the mass, and that is a one way street in the wrong direction

so does that make Wakeman the ueber-warrior, pre-trance king?

god dman it. i had hopes for GO. i thought he would continue what pvd left at. those pvd spike basses and lead... instead he is going more typical generetick sound as time progresses. closer and closer to pop. oh wells..

i will be there tomorrow, of course. as always, in hopes there will be an actual show. lets hope its not going to be one of those shows where the last 30 mins will be good trance.

I was actually surprised to see you there, I didn't think you'd make it out on the thought he would be too trousy.

I really enjoyed the set. Maybe not 'pure trance' but it was a lot of fun and it was cool they gave him almost three hours!

haha. wow. there were at least two other people who approached me to say the same thing. haha c'mon people this is a forum. if i rnt its not the end of the world : )

no, i don't think he is trouse. he did play a song here and there close to that sound (well part of that song) or like NRG - dreamland. such a beautiful song with such amazing progressive flow. how can you side chain this song? eww.. trying to make it sound like the common proghouse sound now. Lead mofo, don't follow.

i don't see him a dj who plays trouse i see him as a dj who drops some decent track and a lot more mainstream poppish now. that video uploaded some comments above, from his show in Russian? well it shows exactly the energy of the crowd. not really into it. forceful cheering and automatically hands up in the air. I felt this show here in pachita was the same. it was fun, sure, but not a true dj show. Maybe he just sucks as a dj. Maybe some one else could have arranged the same songs to have a better vibe. but i doubt it. it was definitely his recent songs that are too boring.
