I was wondering which one is better to start with djing. Turn tables or cd decks??? What are the drawbacks of each...which one will take me faster to being a pro-dj ??? Which one will make my mixing more advanced in a short period of time???
hey cheggy
Well, the main advantage of getting turn tables is that you can get the latest songs straight away. Most of them don't get released on cd. Th eonly way to get them is if someone rips them to mp3 or wav. or something.

I'm not aware of any big names that only use cdj's.
Dj Ahter
Yeah man you are right !!!
I've never tought of that before !!!
You can get the new singles...

Thanx 4 your answer but how about the mixing teq. and all that stuff (easier beatmatching maybe??)
hey cheggy
I would say beatmathcing would be easier cos you have the ability to physically touch the record or the platter to nudge it forward/slow it down a bit. Also, being analog, you have more control over the pitch slider.

I think the whole "hands on" approach would make it easier, though i don't use cdj's so all i can offer is my opinion, not fact.

Yeah thanx...it would be a good idea to control the tune with your hand...
I agree with you :)

I don't agree. This is coming from someone with two cdj100's and two m3d's, so i think my opinion is qualified.

First of all, I think the "hands-on" approach is no good (at least for me). It's MUCH better to just use only the pitch slider. When you start sliding the record around, you lose a lot of the accuracy that sliding the pitch will give you. And then when you're mixing a song in and things start to drift slightly, what are you going to do, nudge the record? It sounds horrible..

Anyways, about the actual question. CD's are much easier to start with simply because you can see the number that the pitch is at. When learning, this was invaluable to me. Nowadays it doesn't matter, I don't look at the pitch or pitch slider on my cd's or tt's when mixing anymore, except when doing really precise fine-tuning.

And in terms of getting music, you can probably get new singles much faster if you burn your cd's... but that's only what s do.

Bottom line: get turntables... even though everything I just said leaned toward cd's. Vinyl is amazing...

Thank you Michael....that was all I need to know about the drawbacks and all that stuff. Yeah...at this point your experience talks...but I still couldn't get one thing...

Should I try the difficult way cos it sounds better???

Ahter, it's all up to you. I did exactly what bigjimslade did, only that now I have real tables. Or you could start with some tables and get a single cd player later. And then you could add another.

There's a lot of things you could do. Personally, if I had to do it all over again, I'd start with turntables though.

Im going the opposite direction. Im starting with CD Players but im wanting to be in the mobile dj business. Not the pro club dj.

Vinyls dominate, no doubt about it. And someone said about the "COOL FACTOR" spinning vinyls. I had no idea singles comes first on vinyl. I thought it was cds or mp3s. Hey man!!! I burn some tunes on cds! Im no ahole.

Man, whenever you ask which is better cd or vinyl on all dj related boards, im sure 98% of the time vinyl is the top choice. I just picture vinyl for the pros.

It's really your style and preference on what way you want to go. Im sure whatever way you go, people won't give half a on what format your playing. Most important is your choice of tunes

Yeah another fact is that I don't have enough money for TTs either...but as Michael said...if I buy the CD deck now, I may have to say "few" more years to buy the TTs. Is it really worth waiting???

You guys are right about vinly sounding groovy but I wanna ask your opinion about mp3 mixing decks??

You know numark has one and it looks excatly like a cd deck?? Do you know anything about it??(Numark DMC-100)

As long as it sounds good;it doesn't matter for me;the thing is the cheapest and it may be good idea for a pracitce (cos guys;if I buy something good like cd decks;I may have to wait a decade :) 4 turn tables.)

I have mp3s too...if you adivce it I'm going to buy it soon.

opinions??:conf: :conf:

hehe
u got it the other way arround m8

look, if u buy a cd player lets say, getting new releases would b easier, cause they get released on the net, right?, so lets say someone releases a promo vinyl of lets say gouryella - ligaya, u could b playing it b4 it goes out on a commercial release on vinyl..
u c?

but i support vinylz, they r0x, they're better, if u wanna go pro faster i'd say start with vinyl, it also depends if u do/dont have the money
just my 2 cents

You will NEVER become a headliner with CD's. No one will support the stealing of music. The only reason you should have a CD player is to play your own stuff, or songs you could never ever get your hands on.
