Any actual difference between a limiter and a maximizer

I'm using Izotope Alloy2 and Ozone. Alloy is intended for mixing purposes and has a limiter. Ozone is intended for mastering and has a maximizer. Is there any actual difference between these two, or is this just marketing/jargon?

No difference, except with a maximiser you could say it increases the output gain after to just below clipping, whereas a limiter is just a compressor with an infinite ratio.

I've never understood why they put out so similar plugins. Have you already bought the plugin? Check out pspaudioware.com there might be something you are interested also

maximizer is not just restricted to compression/limiting which is generally why they use it. Some add harmonic content to do the job ie bbe and some are just straight up limiters.
