Uplifting Trance - My Progress in the Genre so Far

I realize I have a loooong way to go in nailing the uplifting trance genre and sound. But I thought I would post my progress here so far and get some feedback, critique, and ideas about how this sound should evolve?
Is it unique enough? Enjoyable?
Is there anything about it I could be exploiting better?
Any problems you can hear?
Thanks so much for everyone's time. :) |

yo man! my name is thomas cooper and I go by Elohel Exohex on this forum. anyway, really nice song. the melody that comes in before the last drop is beautiful! it was so nice, i wanted to hear it soo bad, but it just was not quite cutting through the mix enough. idk, maybe try to lopass the drums more to give the lead more space? also maybe think about taking some of the highs off the lead to make room for the highhats? idk these are just ideas, but the lead certainly needs to cut through more since its so nice. also, i didnt feel like there was enough of a break before the drop. it sort of was just a continuation of the build. its like going up the drop tower at an amusement park...you know how they always hold u for a split second right at the top? thats where all the anticipation and excitement comes from!! i really liked it tho.
ps, how did you embed the soundcloud player in the post? i cant figure out how to do that. only to embed the link... |

Thank you so much for the critique! Will definitely be taking these things to heart when I flesh out further songs. I'm excited to explore more!
For embedding, I went to soundcloud, and there was an embed code link inside of the "share" option. I just copy/pasted here! |

Heya,
Just checked this out.
Some nice grooves going on here.
Feels like a little too much has been rolled off the bottom end for my tastes. That said over all the sounds do seem to fit their own space pretty well, although it does seem like your eq cuts may have been a bit drastic to the point where some of it sounds a little tinny and unnatural.
Do you use headphones or monitors. Just listening to this, they sound fine in the cans but not on my Yamahas.
Don't worry too much about the pause before the drop, some tracks do and some tracks don't.
Personally I would have wanted a thicker pad in this track, again personal prefernce.
In terms of uniqueness, that's a very subjective question, but no, this does sound like a million other tracks out there, but don't let that get you down. A unique style is one of the hardest things to nail, and before you do that, you have to get to grips with the genre.
I would probably recomend that you use some parallel compression on your drums and precussion as it will beef them up a bit and give them a fuller sound.
Cheers

First, I'm just getting started with making music so my opinions are just that.
Second, I really enjoy the song. I feel it's well structured and pushes nicely through out the song. The drop could have used a slightly bigger build or like the previous comment a bit of a break. The way you have it written though I think just making it a little bigger would probably work better then adding typical 4 beat lull before the drop.
Third, @3.47 it sounds like a not very well accented drop before the main drop and I feel it deters. possibly smooth that build out and it might solve what I was talking about in the 2nd comment.
Last, I've listened to it two or three times now and I really enjoy it. It holds my interest, when I get back to my shop I'm going to play it through my live set up and see how it plays nice and loud!
On a side note, Thanks Nemesis44 for the comment below, I'm always looking for those little tips and tricks to give the music a bit of extra punch.
