Because the label achieved its success by simply licensing tunes from smaller labels for bigger exposure, not by releasing actual original material. |

They facilitated wider distribution of good music. That seems valuable. And if Hooj only licensed the good stuff, then it was a reliable source. Maybe Hooj's originality is overrated, but this doesn't diminish my respect for Hooj much. |

Sure. The "overrated" label, however, is more about the idea of putting Hooj Choons in the same league as labels that actually innovated within their respective genres with original material. |

I was curious about this, so I spent just a couple minutes glancing at Hooj Choons on discogs. From what I can tell:
Original to Hooj Choons:
LSG - Netherworld
Lustral - Everytime
Tilt - Invisible
Lost Tribe - Gamemaster
Solar Stone - Seven Cities
Licensed/repressed by Hooj:
Energy 52 – Café Del Mar
Pete Lazonby – Sacred Cycles
Marmion – Schöneberg
Three Drives - Greece 2000
C.M. – Dream Universe
Space Manoeuvres – Stage One
Those are some respectable original signings by Hooj, but it looks like the really big tunes were licensed/repressed. |

Netherworld was licensed from Superstition. Basically, I'd say you're a bigger fan of Red Jerry as a businessman rather than Hooj as a label. |

Ah, you're right. I can't find a Netherworld release from them. Was it common to sign tracks and license them without releasing? |
