Vestax or DJM ?!
View this Thread in Original format
Jah
ok its time i upgraded my mixer... thing is in aus the pcv 275 is about 1200 and the djm-500 is about 1300 - 1400 so i was wondering with these prices would you guys reccomend just splashing out the extra dosh and getting the 500? (im not really intrested in the 600 with sampler/extra effects, btw is that the only diff between em?) cause 500 seems pretty decent like the 600 but without that extra crap il hardly use anyway... but is it worth it? or vestax all the way? thanx guys
ps. i realise we get these debates every thread! :D but i just wanted some quick opinions and facts technicaly wise...

hmmm I would go for the 500 since it has more channels and effects and so on.....the 275 is simply in a lower league (compare with fe. djm-300 and so on)

I suggest you go with the 500.

I own one, and have played with the 275 a couple of times, and the 500 seems to be much more comfort and fun to work with..

I also believe its build and sound quality are better than the 275, but I have no proof for that.

Adding to that you get 4 channels, and the effects which might come handy once in a while..
hey cheggy
the difference between the 500 and 600 is the sampler, cue-to-live fader for the headphones, i think greater eq control on the 600 for the lowering of frequencies, pretty silver finish, and someone i know who tried both seemed to think the sound quality on the 600 was better, but i don't know if this is true, i haven't heared them both together myself.

The 275's fader will probably last you longer than the pioneer's fader. Vestax are also supposed to have better sound quality, but ditto with above, I don't know this for sure.

They're both great mixers, i guess it just depends on whether or not you want a built in sampler/effects. You can always get a 275 and then get an external effects unit, which would probably be of greater quality than the fx in the 500 and 600. They're nothing too special, not that they're not fun to play with.

If people are recommending the 500 over the vestax, I'd say just spend the extra money and get the 600, if you have the cash that is ;) You can go to www.pioneerprodj.com and look at the comparison charts for the mixers, I'm not going to go through it again. Look for other threads here in the end of this forum. Many people, inculding me have written detailed explainations of the differences, and in short, I and several other djs here think that the differences are worth it. I promise you that if you get a 600 and then go use a 500 later on, you will NEVER regret getting the 600. The 600 has some increadible convineince features that the 500 doesn't have and it it very much worth the extra money if you have it. If you don't, consider holding off a few extra months until you can.

imho vestax quality is much better then the djm serious
i think u should save ur 100 bucks for vinyls and go with the 275
it r0x...
hey cheggy
I'd consider getting the 275 and then getting an external fx unit later on if you want one. I didn't realise that the 275 was so cheap.
Technaut
quite simple really, save a bit extra cash buy the 600.

You'll be a happy guy if u do :p

I love my 275! But I haven't really tried the Pioneer one, so this was a pretty useless post :D

The difference between the DJM-500 and 600 is larger than people think:

*Eq on 500 is -20 and on 600 -26db
*The eq is also not as accurate on the 500 than the 600, if you look at the khz they cut at, the 600 has the standard khz rating
*500 has no record output which can be annoying
*600 has less redundant inputs and outputs than the 500
*600 has sampler and i think 2 extra effects (?)
*600 has the little "crossfader" knob and is VERY useful.. you can adjust the volume of each when heard together if you know what i mean
*500 doesnt have crossfader curves which do come useful on the 600

Anyway.. the extra $200 or so is definately worth it for the DJM-500 over the PCV-275
But some people who have the PCV series say that the eq. knobs are a bit close together and quite small.. though i guess you would get use to them after a while.

In my group of friends, 2 of us have DJM-500's (me included) which we both payed $1500 for at the DJ Factory. One of my other friends said that it was $970 new at Kosmic Sound.. but i'm not so sure about that crazy quote.. but if you do get the 500, go there and you can easily bargain with the guy there (Brian). You should be able to get a lower price than the DJ Factory.

Another friend also has the PCV-175 which is quite similar to the 275 except for the extra inputs, isolators, eq. hearing in monitoring, and a few other things i have missed out. It's quite a good mixer and sound quality definately doesnt lack. The kills also come very useful. But so do the effects on the DJM-500...:)

But after all this i would still stick to my DJM-500.. which you should also do..:D

The Pioneer DJM-500 and the PCV-275 are both quality mixers, bit in my opinion you should save the cash, & get the PCV-275 and a Korg Kaoss Pad2, and use that as ur FX unit. That would be damn good.... :)
DJ LIQUID
ok guys i think we need to keep our mixer questions confined to one thread  :stongue:
