i can use some advice here, basically i feel that what a lot of my songs lack are some good vocals, but right now i dont have the means to hire a vocalist for a session or whatever,so i wanna resort to the next best thing which is taking other peoples songs and turning it into my own, i like what todd Edwards created in the 90s (and hes been using ever since)which are these trippy chopped up vocals ..

flash forward to now and you can hear it used similarly such as in the beginning of this track.

throughout this song

are what all these guys doing is just taking existing acapellas and just chopping them up, reversing em and pitching em up and down? i mean..
its pretty popular in the electro house scene, im really just looking for some tips, im not really looking to be spoon fed, just nudged in the right direction if you will. :) I have looked at a few tutorials, and none of em really come close to it.

That's pretty much what they're doing yes. It's a bit of a trial and error process but very much worth experimenting with.

Airbase did a short tutorial on it back in 2008:

I went and applied this idea on a remix I did in 2010:

It's a fun way to work with vocals without actually needing a vocalist. You can even use an acapella of one of your favorite vocalists and turn it into something entirely different while still sort of keeping those vocal characteristics. Or you can just take a speech from a movie or something and play with that. All up to you.
In that remix for example I used the voice of Jennifer Connelly from a song she did for Dark City. No one would ever guess that's where it came from but I like that it did :)

Google Veela, it's probably the best resource for female vocals like this.

Manual chopping is the only way to do it properly imo, but also putting slices into a sampler or granuliser and playing with envelopes and loop points.

i like what you did there stewart it added a nice touch to the feel of the song, and its right up my alley, im gonna check out the suggestions posted, but i take it, its jus as i expected, which is it being more of a trial n error process experimenting as opposed to there being a set way.
