| i'd prefer if these decisions were made by reputable music journalists/djs/writers/observers/promoters and not regular club folk. The poll results would make a lot more sense. |

Then it gets too nerdy, like a Pitchfork poll... where people try to out cool each other with what underground sound they're listening to in an effort to make them look more credible. Label heads only promoting artists on their labels, or DJs they toured with this year.
I'm nominating DJ Zola because he went and learned drums from monks for 10 months in Nepal last year and decided to fuse it with the rhythmic sounds he learned from tribe in Senegal while embracing the sounds of Beethoven's lost works which were misunderstood but only the true essence of the sound is heard after processing it from an analog to digital back to analog signal to really hear the progression.
Yes, they need the input of readers, clubbers, sales data, critic's views, industry input, artist's inputs on their peers, label heads, etc... But they need to hire some reputable firm to truly review the data and provide a statistical analysis to provide a broader result. |

at least call it the "Most Popular DJ Poll", |
They shouldn't have to. People reading should know right away it's that because it's voted on. |

| I hear that, but 'TOP DJ' isn't the right fit either... |

"make sense". What does that even mean?
As Kotsy stated, these are popularity contests, if you try and attach any more meaning to them, then you loose sight of how the poll was conducted.
When we try and use words like: best or greatest, that is when logic breaks down.
It is simply, who is most popular, based on the number of votes. |

The only reason we get so emotional and heated about these polls, is because we are hoping to have our opinions validated by a supposed 'expert'.
If we stop looking for validation, we can stop worrying about some else's opinion. |

vote not based on popularity but based on an actual skill like any other music/tv award. |

Skill is too subjective when talking about 'art', same goes for the word 'quality'.
A popularity contest actuallye might work. DJ Knob Twiddler got the most people to vote for them, therefor they have the biggest pull. |

subjective or not I can hear with my ears if someone plays like and I can see with my eyes what they are doing in the dj booth. |
