Whats wrong with the trance scene today?

This may sound stupid, but for some reason it pushed me over the edge. There is this website called turntable.fm where you take turns dj'ing and sharing music. I was in the Trance Out room, and I starting playing some Airwave and JOOF. The head person running the room kept kicking me off the stage saying that JOOF and Airwave is Psy, and that Psy-Trance isnt trance. We got into this silly argument about trance and she ended up kicking me from the room saying "you've obviously been mislead for too long to accept reality. Psy is not trance because of the feel. Its too dark, has no feeling." This is the current state of the trance scene. Getting kicked out of internet trance rooms for playing Airwave & JOOF. Laugh all you want but for some reason this really pissed me off. Here is the conversation http://i.imgur.com/Yb8dE.png

Dot dot dot Airwave is psy??? *runs off to discogs to have a look*

Okay, the folks at discogs who I -assume- know a bit about music have Airwave listed for progressive trance.

Anythiong off JOOF recordings itself is, to my knowledge, progressive psy, but I always found it to be heavier on the trance than the psy side of the spectrum. Like Ovnimoon type progpsy.

Not entirely sure that moderator has ANY clue what they're talking about.

And who says Psytrance has no emotion in it? Clearly they've never heard Hero by Mr. Peculiar, or Escape To Heaven by Aquatica.

Psy effing RULES.

And so does euro style trance too.

You keep on rockin' it, mate.

Don't let the idiots make you mad. It'll only mean they're winning.

lol don't listen to those people. They are too caught up on what psy trance is those people don't have a clue what it is. Like I said in the airwave topic. Social media networks have really ruined the scene completely. Most people are not too obsessed with bpms, loud pitch noisey sounds, horrible vocals which sound way too girly even worse than cascada.

hmmm
the problem for me is only on the mainstream scene. the underground producers keep making good tracks!

airwave, basil o'glue, tucandeo, danilo ercole, wellenrausch, rex mundi, tranceye, JOC, indecent noise, onova, joof, timewave, etc... a lot of guys still making good tracks! but yeah, you will not find her in asot/tatw/corsten coutdown episodes. i recommend ''Momentum - by basil o'glue", my fav radioshow!

and... airwave psy? wtf
justin
Airwave is psy? That's like saying Cass is psy... er, progressive psy I mean. I have to agree with what the earlier post says about social media and splitting hairs when it comez to genre IDing. Truth is that trance will never be mainstream. Trance is nutty. unless we're.talking about ambient Techno from the early 90s in this thread.

I think it would be better if we just come up with a new name for the stuff we like and abandon "trance" entirely, because I'm getting totally ing sick of this debate repeating endlessly.

J00F have never been a psy trance or progressive psytrance label. Until recently the label released both uplifting trance such as this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JdwO0JVZPI
and this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lb3X4Bg9leo

And more progressive trance like this:

It's only in the last year that the label have released some progressive psy with acts such as Timewave, Micky Noise

Well... I've never meant to be labelled as Psy. Now if you call that music on Dark Lines that's supposed to be only Psychedelic Tinted, true psy-trance, oh dear... Well then you have to explain me which way we took to start from Vernon's Wonderland or The Age Of Love and end up with this kind of music that most people call "Trance". I've lived this twice: first in Belgium with a wave of crap between 1997 and 1999 and then in 2001-2002 till now with the guys up north going even more commercial and being imitated by even the most respectable actors of our business who completely lost the plot. The music labelled as Trance today cut ties with its roots a long time ago and those who wanted to remain true to their roots just were let down, misled, and then jilted like the weekly trash.

What people like me, j00f, and many others try to do is extremely simple. We're trying to plant the original seeds where they stood as trees before they got bulldozed for the sake of money and fame. We just think there's an audience for that, and we're not trying to be a trend, a rage, a hype. We do not want to be superstars, we want to be the same cool people in 20 years, and keep doing this.

I keep playing the classics. All the time. Fact is that the crowds we face don't even know those anymore. Why? Because we need those legendary tracks, and we don't want them to be forgotten, ever. At least I can say that I have a link with the past, which most of the new "Trance" doesn't. Question of opinion maybe.

This is bull. J00F has never specialised in any one sound of trance, but they were releasing prog psy four or five years ago - Vibrasphere, Wizzy Noise, Anton Chernikov etc. Furthermore, Timewave is not ing psy in any way, shape or form, and how such a massive trance obsessive as you could think so is absolutely baffling to me.
Sleightful
Evidently having knowledge on the genre is irrelevant to gaining to the status of moderator. Guess all they play is Dash Berlin, Cosmic Gate, and Armin?
