Amen. Which is why I have more respect for Tiesto than most of the mainstream DJs who still claim to be playing Trance. Believe Paul Van Dyk took the same route; i.e. he is strictly opposed to calling his music 'trance'.
What kills me is when someone new to the EDM scene refers to some cheesy vocal track as the latest and greatest 'trance' track. Thanks to the #1 DJ in the world, the word has completely lost its meaning. These newcomers could not even begin to imagine the depth and atmospheric quality that the genre originally aspired to. |

Sorry I'm getting pulled in
The problem with pure Trance music is it's really not club friendly. What I mean is (I believe) there's kind of a sweet spot BPM wise that people are comfortable with dancing, at least in mass and not the 5 dudes in the corner. I think DJs recognize that and have mixed the genres in accordance. I can't fault DJs for doing that - bottom line is they need to balance mass appeal (which leads to more bookings) with the need to keep that atmospheric sound. That being said IMO what I like about the Trance genre is it HAS been successfully "crossed over" without loosing too much of it's soul... no matter how the dedicated see it. The late nineties Hooj Choons era is gone.
I'm sure I'll get scorned by the Trance addicts now :whip: |

hah brace your self... here i come!
yeah.. no. this trance nowadays has lost its soul. you don't connect to it anymore. you just don't. it just makes you wanna jump or bounce.which leads to the other topic, dance. If you call bouncing around dancing.. well suit yourself.therefore majority of people still don't know how to dance to this slower bpm. so no mater what the bpm is people will always not dance appropriately. that's why hip-hop , RnB , rap etc. were so great. all you need was an ass to grind to. no need for fancy moves.
trance has always been about elements in its production within the song that progresses through out the song to change and elevate your. chords , string , spike , effect drumm rolls everything in it was used to change the energy of the song to give you an euphoria. that has changed. this "trance" now is more closer to house. or more like big room house. the only thing that keep this trance is the silly trance style breakdown. 3 minute break down?
listen to the "trance" of 2000's and you will realize how it has a lot of elements of techno, house , psy, breaks all incorporated to give that trance euphoria. that's why almost all the production then were unique. from start to end. in present time almost every start is the same, and almost all the effect are the same. that's why we call it generetic sound. only the break down is somewhat diverse.
There is a reason the BPM dropped . Because EDM has gone mainstream. it needs to be within a simple format so everyone can hear it. djs are no more actually dj than they are mainstream radio dj. they play that want you to go pay. they are pushing .
diversity and talent is not rewarded. only this loud , simple , generetic noises. poor, boring production really |
