Places to check out in Montreal

I have been to Montreal a few times and have ventured into the city a bit. I love spending time in Old Montreal, checking out different restaurants, art gallerias and walking around admiring the European architecture. But, I find myself visiting the same places every now and then. Thought I should get your recommendations on other places I could visit in and around Old Montreal/ downtown area.

I am going with a bunch of friends December 30th - Jan 2nd. Staying at the Hyatt Regency, right by Saint Catherine Street. Any cool bars, lounges, restaurants and anything else happening, worth checking out around then?

I will be at Stereo on NYE but that would be after 2-3 am. Nothing else planned aside from that. I have been to Velvet a few times now. I like the vibe there. Decent place to grab drinks before hitting up Stereo. Any other places y'all recommend to hang with friends to bring in the New Year?

Thanks in advance.

Place Jacques Cartier if you want to catch the fireworks and everyone celebrating, I did this last year before going to the club it was a lot of fun and got me in an even better mood to go party.

It really depends on what you enjoy doing in general. Jazz clubs? Museums? Thrift shops? Shisha lounges? Erotic massage? Montreal's got it all, so you should be more specific as to what you're looking for.

Obviously a fan of edm. Mostly the underground kind. Velvet plays minimal and deep-house. Any other places like that?

Not a huge fan of jazz, but live jazz at a restaurant would be nice. Last summer I was at this restaurant- Le Jardin Nelson, in Old Montreal, they had live jazz performers, it was a bit pricey but worth the atmosphere. Sucks that place is more outdoors, it's closed in the winters. I have a couple middle-eastern friends so in for shisha lounges too. As I said hang-out spots with friends- anything touristy too. Preferably in Old Montreal or not too far from downtown.

Any suggestions are more than welcome! :)

I suppose the fireworks are at midnight? Any stage setups and performances?

Last year they had a stage set-up near the bottom with a bunch of acts playing throughout the evening. Not electronic music mind you (Alain François) but the atmosphere was awesome overall.

It's a huge club with awesome audio visual presentation. I saw him in November at New City Gas, it was a good party.

That will probably be the best party going on for NYE in the city.
