I was just filling out a survery for Gallo Music in South Africa.
On of them was - favourite music style. These were the options:
South African
Adult Contemporary
Blues
Children
Classical
Compilations
Country
Dance
Instrumental
Jazz
New Age
Pop
Rap / Hip Hop
RnB / Soul
Rock
Soundtracks
Vocal
World
And I thought to myself, "ummmm, where's the trance ....?"
So I ended up answering dance... sigh...
I'm lucky though, I get to write an article on how South African record companies lump all dance-type styles under dance, no matter whether trance, house or such.

In different countries, Trance is mostly referred to as belonging to the Dance genre.
its not necessarily true considering different types of Trance, but that's the closest match anyway. |

| Yeah, usually they'll just have Dance or Electronica on them survey things. |

unfortunately..most ppl who listen to a trance song, don't evne know it's trance. It's easier for the record companies to get an "accurate" answer from the general populace by giving the option "Dance"
Hell, even Trance borders with various other genres too much that one wouldn't know where to classify their musical preference.
just my $0.02

| I think Trance should be out on its own it has the many categories and the style speeks for it self . all the general public think any think with a beat is Techno and the older people and Rednex call it Disco |

I HATE when trance is referred to as dance!!! :(
Here is Australia the techno/trance scene is not very big, so when people ask me what kind of music i like and i say trance, then say "What? You mean like dance."
*sigh*
if only people realised just how good trance is!! |
