I like some of arty's productions and remixes (although some sound too similar), I just think he's a flat out DJ. Ferry was bad at mixing at first, too, but damn Arty SUCKS. |
Is this recent? When he opened for Dirty South I thought he did fine, and his mixing was damn good when he played at Playhouse for 3 hours. He trainwrecked a couple of times at ASOT 550, but besides that I have not noticed too many problems as of late. In the beginning though, I would agree with you. One of those guys that got booked because of his productions and had no idea how to dj. |

Were you drunk? Or on drugs? Not trying to be offensive -- I am asking a serious question.
And if you think he trainwrecked a "few times" at ASOT 550 you must have been high. Although, it's not his beat-matching that is main issue. He just likes to fade slowly between tracks where the transitions sounds like mashed up garbage. I would have asked for my money back based on that one set if I were in attendance. You should re-listen to it as it was a travesty. It was some of the worst I ever heard...and this was at that huge event. |

Arty. i can't stand his music. |
I tried to give him a chance when he played with Eric Prydz, but damn, I couldn't stand him and left after he went on. That night was like going from Mozart to Oakenfold in less than 5 minutes. Total buzz kill.

| I was there the same night and I didn't mind what he played at all. And judging from the crowd's reception he was the highlight of the evening. |

| I don't understand how he can be such a horrible DJ given the fact that he's made some pretty damn good tracks/remixes (from his early days. Producing is 10x harder than beat-matching and using the hi's/mid's/lo's on a pair of decks and he can't seem to get it for the life of me. This guy is the perfect example of how far marketing can get you in EDM these days. in wouldnt go to his show for free he's that bad. |

yup.
this is what markus schulz has been stressing for quite some time now, how the art of dj'ing is lost because producers are now going on worldwide tours because of their productions but they can't really DJ. |

A big issue is that the big infusion of new fans have had these DJs shoved in their face, so they don't know any better. That's why DJs like Arty can get away with the bad mixing. The audience just doesn't know any better.
Sad part is this same audience doesn't want to listen to anyone who tries to educate them --- as we're all just jaded it seems and give none of the recent popular DJs a chance (which is BS in of itself) -- or go out of their way to learn on their own. It's also why DJs (eg. SHM) can even play CDs, not mix at all, have a clueless crowd who goes nuts, and be massively popular.
If they took a little time to understand the difference they would never go back to accepting the they are hearing now. |
