Ok, SOMEBODY has to pick it apart, I guess it's gonna be me. ;) It's up here for critique, right?
Maybe I find it a tad lacking in originality. It sounds great, but it sounds like such-and-such by so-and-so. More importantly, it sounds like so-and-so's recent work, and you've probably noticed how people complain that many recent works are lacking a certain "something". That "something", in my opinion, is the classical influence, along with other outside influences, that shaped the sound in the first place.
For example, BT and Groove Armada are classically trained multi-instrumentalists. So they have a nice big bag of melodic tricks, having learnt about chord voicings, counterpoint, secondary dominants etc. and they use it. A lot of newer producers just learn from other trance-eurs and that's why there's a lot of sameness now (ex. G minor 7th @ 140bpm, 909 kick drum etc.), as if it were all a technical exercise. I get stuck, too. I'm not saying you're that bad, but some changes are starting to happen here and there and it's good to bring rock out of AC/DC mode while still keeping the drive, if you get my drift.
Fruityloops 3.4 rocks, and you've clearly demonstrated why! I'd love to know what you use for monitoring! :toocool:
Keepitup! Blah blah aside, it rocks my ears. |
