| Jar Jar Binx and the pod racing ruined the Phantom Menace, but Darth Maul was pretty cool. A New Hope was way better though. |

Approved.
A new hope is definitely better. Compared to other films of the time it looked amazing. Phantom Menace looked good. Just good enough for a new movie, but nothing to blow your mind.
A lot of the dialogue in ANH is like in PM atrocious. And some of the acting is outright ridiculous. But you overlook it. Because of the charm. And I agree with RLM, that without the success of the previous trilogy the movies would probably have flopped. It is the music, and the familiarity of the feeling that sells it.
Many people complain about the politics part of the PM, but I think it worked okay, and it was pretty much needed for the story to unfold according to previous canonized stories. Don't forget that not only had he the first trilogy to take into account, but also a myriad of official books. Could it be better? Sure as hell. Was it horrible? Not by a long shot. You can pick it apart ad absurdum, but so can RLM do with ANH too, so doesnt really prove much. First time I saw PM I thought it was pretty cool. And I still do, even some scene irks me.
Attack of the clones is the most boring SW film I've seen as of yet, unless you count the first clone wars animation show which was cut into a makeshift feature film. fell asleep. yaawwn... |

But that's because T1 was quite low budget (<$7m) and when t2 ($100m) came out the timing was perfect; it was the first film to take great advantage of new CGI techniques, and Arnie had actually learned to (somewhat) speak English by then. They're completely different productions in terms of scale. |

Though, when I first watched PM, I was pleasantly surprised by the CGI. And I quite liked the light-sabre battle between Maul and Obi-Wan / Qui-Gon |

Couldn't agree more. I keep arguing with my co worker over this. He complains about how cheap the special effects are and I just want to smash his computer. |
