Yeap. Shure discontinued their world famous M44-7 needles.

It's a SAD day in the DJ world... Shure has discontinued the M44-7 cartridges. :(

For now. I'm sure the M44-7 isn't too far behind.

Here's an email I got from Shure this morning. Disco is right.

"Jesse,

Sorry for the confusion, but it's only the M44-7-H version that ships with the headshell. The standard M44-7 is still available.

Sincerely,

Chris Siuty

Two keywords. Still available. Which could mean the 44-7 retiring soon. Remember how Technics was only going to retire the MK-2...

I doubt it. The difference is that technics made basically the same model for over 30 years and peaked in terms of sales in the last 25. That means literally millions of decks, that also happen to be very difficult to break.

The needles are a consumable and while there are still several million tunrtables in use, every day, Shure will have a market. I understand why the discontinued the headshell version, as hardly anyone uses them and the decks which come with the headshell are no longer in production.
