How to load .mid patch onto JP-8000?

I have "winjplib" and have used it to load soundsets with a .pat file extension with no problem. but i have a couple soundsets that don't have a .pat file, instead their a .mid file and no documentation telling me how to load those type of soundsets.

I didn't know patch/soundset files can as .mid, I thought there was a screw-up and the .mid soundsets must've actually been sequenced notes like I'd expect a .mid to be. But they're definitely supposed to be patches, X-Plorations 2 is one of them. X-Plorations 1 has a .pfm file and X-Plorations 3 has a .pat file.

Anyway whenever I try to load a .mid with winjplib I get a "file invalid" error. I've tried it with a couple different supposed soundsets that have the .mid file extension. Any ideas?

midi file has the system exclusive imbedded. Open your daw, import, and play at a reasonable speed.

thanks for the reply. i use ableton as my daw but, while it can play reglar .mid files (compositions) but it doesn't seem to support sysex because it won't allow me to import the .mid soundset/patches.

i did some googling and tried an app called midi-ox and see where it is supposed to be able to send sysex files but that's for regular .syx files, not midi embedded ones. so i tried midi-ox's midi player in hopes it could transfer it that way but it just wants to try to play it as if it were a composition. tried googling for an answer rather than reply to this thread but still no luck.

any recommendation on what appp i should use?

You will see both a .mid file and a .syx file in the downloaded .zip file.

From here, you must have your synth hooked up to your PC or MAC using a MIDI interface. That's how the patches are sent to your synthesizer. Select the file type of your choice and send it to the synth from your PC or MAC. To do this with the .mid, all you need is to load the .mid into your DAW and configure the midi track to output to your synth, the same way you send MIDI notes to the synth when sequencing a melody. The synth takes care of the rest. For the SYX file, on PC you can use MIDIOX and on MAC you can use SYXLibrarian.

Let me know if you still have issues!

That's what I send to everyone who has an issue uploading my patches to their synth.

AFAIK, Ableton doesn't play nice with .mid files, although they are an acceptable file type. I think ableton doesn't accept sysex.

Logic and Cubase will handle them perfectly, but the problem with .mid files is that they have sysex data as part of the file structure, meaning even if you can get it in to ableton, it could have midi data for several different instruments/sounds all on one track and would take you hours to split manually.

If it's type 0 or 1, Logic and cubase will let you automatically split the tracks/instruments as it can read embedded sysex.

the .mid soundsets/patches i have don't have any accompanying files, no .syx file, just .mid with the .syx embedded within the file.

X-Plorations vol 2, JayB's JP8080, and some Planet-Groove soundsets all only have .mid files as the patches/soundsets. X-Plorations vol 1 and vol 3 are .pat and .pfm, i used winjplib to load them no problem.

yeah Ableton played regular .mid files no problem, i downloaded a couple regular (non-sysex) composition midi's and tested them. but with the sysex-embedded midi's, ableton won't allow me to drag them in. no error or message, it just doesn't allow me to drag them in the same as any other unsupported file-type such as trying to drag in a .jpg, .doc, or any other completely unrelated non-audio file-type.

i downloaded this program called midi-quest and that let me transfer these sysex-embedded midi files. only problem is that it's not very reliable, some soundsets work and some don't. the demo from 7 skies' soundset isn't working and JayB's jp8080 soundset doesn't work but x-plorations vol 2 does. i want to see if i can try it with another program that supports sysex-embedded midi's to see whether it's the soundset files that are the problem or if it's the midi-quest app that's being screwy. i have a windows 7 computer so logic is out of the question. i don't have cubase, unfortunately my daw doesn't support sysex. does anyone know of another app i can use
