I've been looking for a way to mount an lcd screen so that it is like at a 30 degree angle. Basically think horitzontal, then raised a bit so you can see it. There are plenty of very ugly brackets and what not but i'm looking for more of a cradle that just sits say on a surface.
I've also been thinking about getting a large TV to replace the 3 vertical monitors i know use. They also have a brilliant stand that rotates and can be angled to any degree.
I don't have greatest eyes sight so the resolution is not so much a concern. I do like how separate monitors forces programs to take a slow or screen. Sort of organizes your area by default.
thanks pals. |

I've actually been looking in to this myself as I have a 46" TV for my home theatre that want to move from one place on the wall, and swing it across and slightly down in front of a window which is the optimum viewing position.
The bit that sucks is that virtually every stand/mount only moves on one plain (i.e. horizontal) although you can then adjust the viewing angle.
I need something with a fully articulated movement, like a ball joint, but has a long reach (like 40").
I've seen these stunning all aluminium ones - they're damn expensive and I can't find anywhere that sells them locally.
For your needs, you should easily be able to find something that does it:
Try these guys, they have a big selection:

Sweeet! I just checked and they have what I'm looking for - a fully articulated arc TV mount.
Er, thanks for asking this question! I've been on the hunt for two months! |

Oh and as for moving to one HDTV there are pros an cons:
It's great to have one really nice big screen, all that real estate is quite nice to work on, especially to see your entire project/cue. It also makes clients drool.
the other thing that's great, it that when your scoring to picture, it's the only real professional way to work. Every studio I've ever been in has a full size HDTV to cue against and most of my composer buddies use that screen for arranging
The only thing that can be annoying is that videocards see separate monitors as separate screens meaning it's super easy to layout your screen sets and maximise/minimise.
i'm not sure what developments there have been in OSX or videocard options in layouts but I imagine you can set our custom screen areas so hopefully not too much of a ballache.
I'm a little bit of an expert on the current flatscreen market;
The ones to go for are the samsung Smart TV's. They have a tiny bezel and the pciture is just stunning. |

| I seem to remember a thread where you, L4C, berated some poor user about how ghetto it was to use an HDTV as a monitor. What's changed? :toothless |

I suspect there's a difference between using an HDTV when you have nothing else, and using an HDTV when your superior mind deems it preferable.
Duh! |

i believe it was steven wiley.
It is somewhat ghetto but they don't make lcd monitors in the dimensions i need I am using 3 vertical monitors which fill the space between my monitors perfectly. No 2 monitor setup will give me the height i need and fill the width. The height is critical as it allows for easy score viewing. I do have a hdtv that pops up behind the lcds right now for sync viewing.
I also have 2 24 lcds to my right which are for mixing and viewing the slave vsl ensemble on my mac book and then one lcd to my left which is used as a monitor for my slave mac pro and vsl ensemble.
The thing is that my eyes are not great. The resolution on my side monitors are rather low. |

You know Dell do a super widescreen 2560 x 1080 29" IPS screen?
Or maybe it's LG
Either way, I might. |

again they are never high enough. Always too wide. The only units with the dimensions that would replace what i have right now are hdtvs
think of like 16/9 vs 4/3 . I need the type of shape 4/3 does which lcds just don't do well, big ones. |
