Online colab - FL Studio & Ableton

Me and my friend from Poland are going to be working on some stuff together, and he's not so well versed in Ableton. I have used FL Studio but it was many, many years ago and I've never made anything professional sounding in it. Any suggestions on colab using FL and Ableton, rather than both of us using the same DAW? Or should I just buckle down and re-verse myself in FL Studio?

If you can both find a workflow around working with wav loops it's not impossible. I mixed Dream Machine using FL while Novastorm (immersiv) wrote many of the elements in Reason. Sections with automation changes were done as separate files per synth loop, which gets a little tedious, but overall it wasn't that hard.

Yeah just use wavs.

You need a proper idea of what it is you want to focus on otherwise you end up keep pinging so many ideas back and forward that you soon build up lots of unfinnished work.

It may pay to be quite brutal with decisions, such as one of you does bass the other does melody and you stick to one track at a time.

This. I'm doing several collabs right now with people in other countries. We each just render out the stems, and trade back and forth. Way easier this way IMO. The last time I tried to trade project files with us both using the same software, I spent more time trying to understand my partners workflow and methods than making any music. It was incredibly frustrating. We each worked so differently. With wavs, you can just avoid all of this completely.
