Hello Europe!

JohnSmith
Hi everyone, this is my first post in the UK forum, i have been invited over here by a few people. I usually just hang out in the chill out room and DJ booth, but, the threads are starting to bore me.

anyway, thanks for having such damn great music, i import all my records from europe to canada to spin them here for people.

Also, i wanted to share something with you that might interest you, a speech i did on september 11th. It mentions Tony Blair and his involement, so you might be interested.

there is the plain vocal version here:

and a version my buddy freefall edited up with some music behind it:

if you can't download the mp3, here is a link to the transcript:

I'd like to hear what you think about this, the US and UK are poised to go to war, and i think it will be horrible.

The UK is drifting towards a farcical democracy like that which the Americans have had for some time: 2 choices only. The traditionally socialist party has gone right wing, so anyone on the left has only Lib Dem to vote for, who are hopelessly behind the two front runners. Hence, Blair doesn't need to fret about winning support, competition in our democracy is as scant as it is in the US, and like Bush he's doing as he pleases.

Saddam Hussein has everything to lose if the US invades. If he does have weapons of mass destruction, then he's going to start firing them at his neighbours when Yankees start converging on Baghdad and taking everyone down with him. If he hasn't got weapons of mass destruction, then why invade?

"We are at war with terror" he says. After 13 months, he has not defined terror or terrorism. George W Bush is at war with an abstract noun. I find that quite a dangerous excuse to write him a blank cheque to do as he wishes. Like tyrannical leaders of the past his appointment was shrouded in controversy and allegations of rigged elections. Like tyrannical leaders of the past he almost immediately increased defence spending once in office. Like such leaders of the past, he is indeed prepared to invade countries for their natural resources.

The UK and the US have too many chickenhawks, too many armchair warriors, constantly seeking the easiest explanation as to why their country was bombed. "They're all bastards". Typically the opinion of a London cabbie, during times of confusion it's an easy opinion for the majority to adhere to.

In short, I agree with you mate

I'll finish with a quote attributed to Julius Caesar, though as is now believed, written by William Shakespeare in reference to Caesar. Shortly after Sept 11, it was revealed that CNN had been asked to mention the September 11 attacks after every report on the war in Afghanistan. Also, you may want to bare in mind the recent laws introduced by the US govt which infringe on basic human rights. Whoever the quote is by, it raises a good point about some of the more dangerous tyrants in history:

"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind.

And when the drums of war have reached a ferver pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so.

How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar."

Here's another quote you might like to add to your site Johnsmith:

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

Hermann Goering, President of the Reichstag,
Nazi Party, and Luftwaffe Commander in Chief,
from Gilbert, G.M. (1947). Nurenberg Diary, New York: Signet

Which I found here: http://www.hermes-press.com/militarismindex.htm

Here are some more you might want to add:

"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy."

James Madison, while a United States Congressman

* during the past half century US aid to Israel has totaled a whoppng $81.3 billion (November 2001 Congressional Research Service report)

* for 2003, the Bush administration is proposing that Israel receive $2.76 billion in foreign aid, mostly in the form of military hardware

*1/3 of all US foreign aid goes to Israel, who make up just 0.01% of the world's population

* an additional $28 million will go to Israel for the purchase U.S.-manufactured counter-terrorism equipment

* in the past decade alone, the United States has sold Israel $7.2 billion in weaponry and military equipment--everything from fighter planes and attack helicopters to machine guns and grenade launchers

* Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia are among the next largest recipients of US military weaponry

* from 1999 to 2000, Egypt received $1.3 billion in US military aid and Jordan got $123 million

* while Saudi Arabia receives no outright US military assistance, it has bought over $33.5 billion of the most sophisticated US weapons systems (AWACS, F-15's and more) over the past ten years; that's more than US military assistance given to Israel and Egypt combined.

I find it interesting that Bush doesn't talk much about China.
