table top and keyboard only synths

what is with this trend. I don't understand the concept of paying 3000 and using the actual keyboard when you can use a 800 action keyboard for all your synths. And then the desk top bull trend. Do they just assume anyone that likes synths are ing poor and will only own one.

i see some setups with like 10 desktop modules and it looks ridiculous.
tehlord
I want more keyboard synths because they look cool.

rack mounts look infinitely more cool, having more than one keyboard starts looking daft. and it just takes up space. Even for live use, most would prefer a rack mount and use a ty midi controller. THe more you move these things, the quicker they break.

I just saw the new korg re issue and it looks ing silly.

Not to mention i have yet to see a synth with a proper keyboard. Ever. Even the nord stage keyboard is just ty.
tehlord
My list includes both keyboards and rack mounts, so I'll look doubly cool.

I'll have them spread all around me like some kind of prog rock God.

CANT DO THIS WITH RACKS BITCHES

but that is the thing. You could. And you would be abusing spilling alcohol on a midi keyboard that is really easily replaceable. There is a reason all those like NIN style bands that were heavy synth driven used midi controllers rather than the actual unit. They also did it to save space. They knew that every city had a generic midi controller and they tended to just buy cheap dx7s and then smash them after the show as rock stars do.
tehlord
DX7s are . Mine fell out the back of the car on the way back from a gig and got run over by a lorry. True story.

Sadly I bougt a D10 to replace it, which was even ter.

they used them because they were and were only meant to last 1 day. Meanwhile, the 10 000 synth rig was away from alcohol and rock star antics. The point is that the second you have more than one synth, having a bunch a keyboards around is pointless. It also reduces wear, and having a rack version is harder to steal, easier to organize and access and in every instance more favourable. THe only reason i think they sell them like this now is that most producers have 1 synth.

I want people to see my indulgence. Rack synths could be behringer compressors from a distance.

I was watching this short studio session with Ferry Corsten and towards the end of the video he shows some of his keyboards and I thought it might be relevant to this thread:

or a casio keyboard. IT looks stupid. It makes you look like an 80s prog rocker. There is nothing more lame than stacked keyboards.
