Yoyo!
If you make a remix of a remix, what do you call it?
I guessed something like this: Gaia - Tuvan (Ahmed Romel vs. "You" Remix)?
Any ideas? |

| You call it a cover version. Your artist name - Original song title |

you call it a remix of the original. The vs thing is complete bull that assumes you collaborated. IT is extremely poor taste. |

Poor example from me...
Imagine that the Ahmed Romel remix in this case would use a lead he created which does not appear on the original song (but he used the same vocals and other samples from the original song which qualifies to call it a remix). And I want to make a remix of his remix with that synth lead (which is his lead)... What would I call my remix of AR's remix in this case? (Comprende?) |

you call it a bootleg since armin never asked you to remix it to begin with.
calling it a remix at all is distasteful and more or less advertising that you are an unprofessional amateur who has no clue what he's doing.
not sure why people have such a hard time grasping the difference between these two terms.
Bootleg != Remix

| You can still use remix, no problem with that. |

the law is not quite how it works out in the real world. '
technically, a remix is only a remix if you are using original audio and "remixing" it.
So altho you are doing a cover you would still call it a remix even if it is legally incorrect.
Do you need permission ? yes. Any derivative work needs the writers permission. Does anyone do this in dance music - no.
I am almost certain the only way to do it without permission although you are still paying out royalties is if your version does not distort the original. So same form, basically with different sounding stuff but otherwise the same. |

you just call it a remix.
classic example would be Art of Trance - Madagascar
Cygnus X Remix introduced that oh so familiar breakdown / buildup which was pretty much used from that point forward in all new versions / remixes. |

Thanks so much for the clarification. I was wondering if I was losing my mind with this. See...I am rather old school if you will.
In the old days, a dance "remix" essentially (to me) meant having access to the master real. Most Dj's then made a "re-arrangement" of the song and possibly some additives, but it still kept the original integrity of the song.
Now, these days..what gets me is how these "stem" contests are called remix contests? Especially since majority of the winners submissions are completely different from the song they are supposedly "remixing".
AND the producer is apparently ok with this. Even more so...why even offer stems when no one even uses them?
Sorry if this seems like I am trolling here, I felt it had some relevance |

You can also put two remix names as for example:
DJ Eco - Light At The End (Lost World Remix) (Martin Roth Edit)
Often written like this too:
DJ Eco - Light At The End (Lost World Remix / Martin Roth Edit)
I've seen the first option more (in actual releases) than the latter. |
Ahaa! But if you make a remix of the remix then would you write it like: Eco - light at the end (lost world remix)(martin roth remix)??? |
