I have the same drive but the 256gb model. The 830, if anything is more reliable than the 840 pro and the performance difference is negligible.
The 830's are ing amazing - my imac boots up faster than my broadband modem so I have to wait an extra 30 seconds before I can go online lol.
Apps take one bounce to load and it's given my 2008 imac a whole new lease of life. Super quiet too.
As far as the projects go, unless you're scoring for theater on something like Digital Performer, I have no idea why you'd have 50 songs at one time.
Just make sure whatever song project you're working on is on the SSD and when you're done, migrate it properly to an external drive. This way any samples you're using are in the working folder while you're working on ti and when you;re done, you free up space.
At most studios, you can get fired for not clearing out old projects from the main host after you're done (both for performance and confidentiality reasons) so it's a good habit to get in to.
My 256gb has 70% free space after all apps and programs have been installed (logic, PTHD, plugs etc), so 512gb should be more than enough to do anything you need, even with 120gb project files.
Just make sure when you install, do a fresh install after formatting the drive. They say it comes pre formatted but everyone I know who got one saw better performance by fully formatting them first. |

thanks for the great advice, i think ill be happy with the 830 :)
im kind of a personal engineer for someone but eventually i would probably work in a studio if i could find one hiring so all these tips are useful.
i do a lot of graphic work + keep tunes on my HD so i have photoshop/premiere stuff also, space is constantly being filled... i also ordered the HD caddy, very stoked for that :)
this should be a good fresh start and a good change to my workflow... thank you again guys for the killer responses |

damn buying an SSD in canada is expensive and annoying.
Dear Sir,
This product is sold out and discontinued.
512GB 840 PRO is available, your price $509.90, would you like to switch ?
Best regards |

Dear Sir,
I really don’t understand…
You had a 90$ off on the best SSD on the market.
We process hundreds of orders every hour, and stock level are adjusted every 3 hours only.
We are based in San José California, so it takes 24 to 48:00 to be available anywhere in Canada.
There is no indications what so ever that you could have your order the same day.
Your order is now cancelled, and you lose a great deal.
Best regards

Congrats - it's actually amazing how they breathe life back in to something that was getting past it's prime. |
