I do. Really, I'm not even being satirical or anything. I don't think I'd ever defend someone's right to do something just because they're free (that is, take freedom as an a priori right). Rather, I defend freedom insofar as it doesn't hurt anyone who is not a willing participant - and, if the chances of an innocent getting hurt are high, there should be limits.
Gun advocates usually compare guns to cars, for whatever reason. Cars, they say, cause more deaths than weapons of any kind, except maybe in wars. I don't take this to be an argument for guns, but an argument against reckless driving. There's a reason why radars, speed limits, safety belts, and traffic lights (don't they keep you from going wherever you want whenever you do?) are great: it's because they reduce the risks of something going wrong at speeds evolution didn't prepare us for. The number of car related deaths in Brasí plummeted after they installed dozens of radars, severely limiting the freedom of drivers (many of whom still whine about it), but driving is a lot safer now.
Unlike cars, which are quite useful in daily life, guns are made for emergencies - and without proper training (sometimes even with it), people tend to do stupid things. So, the less, the better. |
I 100% agree with you, as like I always do in my way.
But don't you think his gun ownership had something to do with his legs weather or not he had well legs. Not defending him but that is a fairly good reason to own a gun.
His using it properly is another story. |

No!! What I was getting at is a guy with no legs (you would think) would cerish his beatiful girlfriend more than guys with two legs. Making me having a hard time wrapping my head around him killing her.
Wasn't there company over before the shooting(again I didn't follow the story) and that could be a 3some in the making but she backed out/just a though.

I've shot everything from a monster Mk19 to a tiny little M11. I didn't sleep in a hole in the desert fighting hajji just to have the people's rights taken away by some limp wristed liberal who thinks guns are scary and that police are pure, competent, and can do no wrong. |

That is another reason to allow people to have guns. So they can defend themselves. I believe that life is precious. Pro-life, against capital punishment, pro-self defense. You aren't against people's right to defend themselves from the riffraff, are you? |
