How there really isnt anything interesting being discussed in the trance production thread. Its fun but if you go to the dnb and dubstep forums, there are actual threads that are really long that talk about some pretty heavy stuff. I mean i understand why nobody is asking questions about trance and most people are here by habit as there is nothing new in trance but ya. ON the other hand, I feel like those other forums despite some great threads have a dj ryan ratio that is too high.

It's a very American idea to segregate one genre of production from another. 90% of what you do will be using the same tricks and techniques. The reason stuff is interesting over in the dubstep forum is that the pioneers will be there this week/month. So will the wanabees.

When I ran a forum, production was production and the trance guys learned from the house guys learned from the score guys learned from the rock guys.

i think you missed the point. Anything new worth learning about that is production related is found in other forums. It isn't the same techniques otherwise I would not mention it.

lol

because i didn't render you a midi version of some stupid melody a monkey could figure out. What the is wrong with people. I said i would do it until you started acting like i owed you it. ANd go thru the threads, there is not one request regarding harmony or melody i don't transcribe for those that aren't dick heads. Waste your time. ffs.

I actually think you're reading it completrely wrong.

I don't really listen to trance (apart from for sports or working out) and haven't been to a trance club in probably 10 years.

This place, to me, is just as much a prog production forum as it is a house forum, as it is a trance forum. It's an EDM forum with a funny name.

The more niche forums like Dubstep forums come and go - when the wave of popularity crests, the "pioneers" (ahem) you mention geek out for a few months, then they move on to something else like nomadic emos and the forums completely dry up.

There is still good info here - better than anywhere else on the whole - and frankly I feel there's a need for a different more hands on approach to moderation.

There certainly was an argument at one point to give everyone a wide berth as sometimes you get tangential info or less direct pearls of wisdom, which can be priceless, but the ratio of "how do I make teh tarnce" or "what sound is this" (i.e. white noise) has become more prevalent to the point of the general climate changing.

Now combine that with a few trolls or baiters and it's becoming a recipe for a dearth of useless content.

I think our resident proud Afro-Canadian has always done a good job and is a mature judge of situations, but I'd like to see more useless threads closed, and the truly abundant trolling/baiting/flaming put to rest.

This place always has had an element of that but right now it't like 4chan with a little audio engineering thrown in.

It's not habit, it's that you know there are some very talented and knowledgeable people on here and when the environment is right, this is one of the most useful resources on the net.

OH ok. Generally I find in this forum that we discuss production techniques and it's independent of genre, but it's not always the case. It's true that nearly all of the principles are universal regardless of what style of EDM you produce, but it would be cool to read how DNB artists get some of those insane sounds of theirs. Post any cool links to threads in that DNB forum if you think it is worthy of substance.

His question is; Why aren't new trance techniques being discussed on this forum, as new dubstep techniques are being discussed on dubstep forums, ie. How do you make the new TerrorMonkey Wobble Screech?

Amirite?

It is because trance, and this isn't even recent, has fallen into the same pit as many genres, but most noteably hip hop. It is where you go, when you've run out of ideas that still conform to the genre, but you still cling onto it for life (presumably to keep your youth alive or something like that), and you start borrowing from other genres, but never from the new ones. You always steal the most outplayed , even though you laughed at some noobs pathetic fusion attempt two years ago.

For trance, the major breakdown, as I see it, and some may disagree with me, and claim it was the introduction of vocals, and they may be just as right, jaddajaddajadda, but let's say trance didn't die in 2001. And that the anjuna stuff is actually trance. Then the crack, was the tech trance boom of 05, followed by the electro house basses (that were already passé btw), and I actually haven't been force-fed enough trance after hearing the electro trance fad nearly die out before being shocked back to life by the americans sudden interest in electro house. And all it took was for a dj to dress up like a bobble head. Lolmau5 s a genius haha..

So yeah, my answer would be, because seeing as trance only steals well-known techniques of other genres, and how people are told to google the up, they get their answers on the other forums you are referring to. Only you need to jump back two years.

Remember, these guys I'm referring to here, are the guys who thought it would be a great idea to get a tamagotchi just as everybody was starting to throw theirs in the ground because that little thing was ing annoying. So they get what's cool, but they're not brave enough to lead the parade, if you can appreciate the metaphor.
