The term itself doesnt bother me, more how its used ( usually in a boastful manner to show diverse tastes meanwhile the "EDM" they listen only stretches one-three genres ). I usually just say dance music ( Does the electronic really need to be there, how much dance music is made with live instrumentation/bands anymore ).
Scoops
this is why i hate EDM....when i read like this

Music Fans… the Genre Currently Known As EDM Began A While Ago. These 2 artists and their Producers Gave House Music a New Twist and Developed a Newer Sound Refer to as Electronic Dance. While it falls under the category of classic in this Event on 2.23.13 Both Artists are currently still moving Dance floors all over Europe and America. Toca’s Miracle, you Make Me Feel, Castles in the Sky were Anthems then and NOW. This Event is like a Bridge Connecting from 2000 to 2013

I've relegated myself to calling it dance music. I refuse to call it EDM anymore.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand all this hate towards the acronym EDM. I mean who the cares. I get the disdain towards what the scene has become, but the term "EDM" seems to me like a good description. It used to be "techno" meant everything... people would stop and question, and I would say, you know... the Mortal Kombat music.

Too me its a fad, something cool to throw around like you know what your talking about.

It's like saying you're into cars... but when you dig deeper to see what they know, you realize they are basically throwing it out there to sound like they know what they are talking about and don't really know .

I realize its not like this with everyone, but considering the current generations fascination with 'swag', 'yolo', and 'plur', I think this fits right in with them.

Plus EDM is so easy to market instead of saying trance, techno, drum 'n bass, progressive, etc, etc, etc.

Besides, people still call everything techno or ask why I still go to 'raves'. /facepalm
