Meanwhile, in Quebec (pg. 2)

I wonder if they ever around with Russian restaurants. Hammer bashing to the head, followed by screwdriver poke into an empty eye socket may be what's on the menu that day.

The Quebec language nazis admitted they screwed up.

Bunch of hypocrites. I don't see them going after Montreal Canadiens for breaking French language laws yet. Pretty sure in the locker room, French isn't the primary language spoken in that particular workplace.

It really gets on my how nearly every other in English comes from French (or from Latin, just as French), and the French - to this day! - refuse to use words like "download" and "computer". Really?! Téléchargement just sounds like a word for shoving something through a telephone up someone's arse... and ordienateur would be an awesome word for a dictator, not for an instrument that broadcasts cat videos all day long.

I'm surprised they didn't feel the need to coin a new word for "banana" like "dildejaune" or summat.

Actually, in France they are more likely to use anglicisms than in Quebec. Quebec has a paranoia about losing their language and culture that is second to none. They believe that they must protect it at all costs, even if their draconian policies are actually holding the province back. They are an "island of misfits" on a continent dominated by English and Spanish. I would even say that Mandarin probably has a higher presence in NA than French.

Don't get me wrong, I am happy that I am fluent in French. I was not subject to the laws of Bill 101 (all students must attend French school unless their parents went to English school before the law was applied) and nor will my children be if I decide to go back. I studied in an "immersion" setting (classes in both languages). It had many benefits, and I would say speaking more than one language has made it easier to pick up others more quickly. It is also a good way to get outside of Quebec. Women dig French.

In the Global Village though, there is absolutely no sense do functioning this way. They are devaluing their people by not giving them adequate access to the most dominant language of business in the world, yet will complain if Anglophone or bilingual people make more money/have more success. They are handcuffing Quebecois people into not being able to leave. It sucks for them, not for me.

quebec is the only province you can sue amazon and that is in NA including the USA. They were the only land mass that thought it was important that you could not sign away that privilege in the small print. They are the only province in NA that actually take the side of consumers over corporations. Quebec is different but better. I'm english. Montreal would not be montreal without the sort of governing it has which includes making it really ing hard for corporations.

I love Mtl. I have many friends who have travelled extensively who call it their favorite city in the world. Still, while it is a minor factor all things considered, separatists and Franco-nazis must die.

they add to the spice yness, Quebec is pretty special. I mean only in quebec can people still protest and grab the government by the balls. No other place in NA. That tradition of not taking any regardless if you agree with their cause or not, is something you won't find and it is unfortunate. People still can affect change unlike say occupy which had more people yet did all. The government tip toes in quebec. And that is how governments should be.

the mob presence is also kinda funny, They never moved beyond the traditional italian racket stuff. French people just don't use technology or the internet at all.

I agree with most of your post, but I think calling pigheaded Francophones "spicy" is stretching it a bit. I love Montreal to death. It's an amazing city. Everywhere has little issues, God knows we do down here in the US. I think it's ok to admit that they act ridiculous at times (like the Pasta dealy) and still consider the yourselves pretty far ahead overall.

Looney4Clooney
the french are the ones that do all that protesting. It is just in their genes.

So all the Occupy people in the States were French? Other people protest too. Pounding pots and pans in residential neighborhoods well into the night all summer isn't something to be proud of.
