Loco Dice, the German DJ and EDM producer, got his start as a Hip-Hop DJ and rapper supporting big names such as Ice Cube, R.Kelly and Snoop Dogg. But wait, Loco Dice doesn’t exactly fit the flow of these names. No, but his real name does. Dice Corleone, now that’s gangsta.

As is his music. EDM that is, which keeps the boldness of hip-hop mixed with intense techno flair. That was the case this past Saturday February 17th, 2013. Things got loco when Dice Corleone took over the DJ booth and set out to break his record of spinning for 16 hours. And he did.

He spun for almost 16 hours, coming on and off after the sunlight.

Queen of Space, Jackie Richie, even joked with him, rolling the dice on when they would close the door. He’s been her favorite for four years and counting. And since Loco Dice rolls with the punches and didn’t want to stop playing he wrote up a sign that said closing: one week. Only problem is everyone seemed to roll with it, and all the fans that stayed for the entirety of his set would probably stay too. Space has never sold out for a performance like this before, and with reason.

As the signs that surround the terrace clearly state, it’s the happiest place on earth. Tony the Tiger, Peter Pan, Pee-Wee Herman, Ronald McDonald are all there to advertise and affirm it is so.

As the night/day/next night drew to a close, Loco Dice made history and Jackie Richie crowned him king of Space.

Toronto is in bad need of one of these nights. Something rare..

So many possibilities here.

Agreed. The closest thing to a marathon set I've experienced was a 6-hour Markus Schulz set at Guv in May 2010. I might have to venture to Stereo sometime soon since marathons are much more common there.

I was at one of Armin's 9 hour sets back in the day. That was a great night :)

I'd like to see one of DT's marathon sets, but alas, hasn't happened yet.

It's definitely something I wouldn't mind seeing. I mean, there's enough places that will stay open. I could see city council coming down hard on anything fun like that though.

I saw loco the night before at Output in Brooklyn. He was pretty good (and played a nice long extended set), the venue was even better.

Wish we had something like that here.

No bottle service, nice clean / slick venue, function 1 North American showcase club (sound was super amazing).

I think the days of marathon sets are coming to an end.

Most of the New York guys, like Morales, Tenaglia, Calderone etc, used to play a lot of marathon sets in Toronto back in the day, but Toronto has changed, especially when it comes to the authorities.

In this day and age, where a 3 hour set is called an extended set, a lot of the newer generation don't have an understanding of the spiritual/psychological mindset of a marathon performance.

"Why would you want to stay at a party that long?" is what a lot of kids say these days. A marathon set is a rare occasion, taking us back to the Paradise Garage inspiration of New York.

People used to take a disco nap and head out at 4 in the morning, totally sober and stay until the afternoon, completely engulfed in music, no substances needed. That is the real essence of afterhours/marathons. It's amazing to think that's how they partied back in the day.

Stereo still has marathons here and there. Chus and Ceballos (well Ceballos) played New Years Day until 4pm. Danny usually goes until at least 2pm. Calderone often plays 1 am to 11am. You'll have your marathon at Space Miami, but you probably won't see one in Toronto again because everything is so strict...

Basically the only marathon set in Toronto now is Mark Oliver at The Gift every year. Gone are the days where he played for 9 hours every Saturday :(

Not just these days. I've been going out for over 10 years, and I have never been a fan of marathon sets.

I like a solid and consistent build, which I don't find I get. The sets are too up and down.

2 to 3, maybe 4 hours max for me. Very few DJs know how to play beyond 3 hours.
